Hey guys and girls,
I just got to thinking after going out flying my 40% yesterday what planes do you guys enjoy flying more the Pattern/ Sport or a 40%. Me personally I love flying my 40% but nothing beats the feel of a pattern plane. Let me know what you guys think

Andrew,
I'd have to say pattern is my favorite. I enjoy flying my 40% a lot, but I haven't found anything to be as graceful and pleasing as flying pattern. Sport and 3D is also fun to fly when you just feel like relaxing and playing around.

Pattern planes and chocolate chip cookies, now you know I haven't even flown a 40% because there to big, harder to handle by your self, and harder to transport, but then you know pattern has always been my real love, sleek and beautiful, like a good woman. But you know that was coming didn't you Drew.

I LOVE pattern airplanes...
Even though sometimes I think Chip designed the Hydeout specifically to be hard to work on [8D] , I really love flying it. Giant scale is cool too. I have flown a couple of big airplanes. I actually Have a 35% Carden Cap that has yet to fly, but I think that would be a conflict of interest for me at this point.
I won't be able to make it to the Nats, but I am looking foreward to seeing you down at the Masters, Andrew. You gonna be down here again before then?
Pete, when are you leaving for Florida again?
Sean, is that why you sold that Edge, to get a t-t-turbine? That was a gorgeous airplane.

Ryan,
I will be at the Masters. I am acutally gonna be there this Saturday for the youth masters. I feel the same about the pattern planes being so smooth.
Yea sean sold his edge for his turbine. It is a sweet turbine for being turbine!! LOL Just kidding. It has the best smoke system I have ever seen.

Andrew,
I was wondering if you were going to the youth Masters or to the Seekers contest this weekend.
I'm supposed to work Saturday, but being the boss, maybe I can get out of it. The Seekers event was going to be my first full Pattern event. If I can't get out of working this weekend, I guess the RCCD event will be my first. I put together a 3D Quest this year just to get my feet wet in Pattern.
Congrats on the RCU gig!

I am going to the youth masters this year. I like to give back to the hobby for as much it has given to me so this is my way of doing so. If you can get the time off I would make it to the contest. It will be a very low key contest. There will not be as many people as some of the others in our district because there are many that have this weekend already planed for. This will be good in your case as you will be able to see how things work but they will work slower. My dad and Bob Kane a good friend put this contest on it is well run and should be a great contest.

it's funny - I try and make all my IMAC planes fly like my Pattern plane
I really prefer flying Pattern, but the friendships and the people of the NC IMAC region are what keep me flying there. now if we could convert all those IMAC guys into pattern guys...
question for Andrew,
have you considered going LiPo for a two meter plane yet??

Pattern plane....no contest. It spoils you, doesn't it? I mean I like all kinds of planes, but after flying my pattern plane, it feels like the rest of them don't fly right. I have a Funtana Pro 2 meter I'll be building, then a 40% of some kind to do some IMAC. But pattern is my first love, always will be. Why doesn't pattern get the attention it deserves? I mean, open any magazine, there's 100 pictures of an extra/edge/latest 3d arf hovering. But where are the pattern planes? It's no wonder so many people don't even know what pattern is anymore. Sad.

Andrew,
I new your dad was running the contest, that was one of the reasons I wanted to make it one of my stops this year. I figured as good as you fly must have something to do with the way your parents helped you when you were first starting out, getting you to the field, equipment, planes and all that go along with it.
Any one that would help his sons that much in the beginning, must love the hobby, so it just makes sense that he will put on a good event.
Myself, I wish my wife would be behind me that way
. I think she figured out how much I have invested in this hobby so far, LOL!!
I wasn't able to make your dads' event this year, but it's already figured for next year.
I guess RCCD will be my first event, I'll see you there, if your coming this year.
I don't have my Top Cap any more so you can't fly that this year, but I have an CG Extreme 330 and a 540, both with Saito 72's and you can put them through their paces if you want.
See ya,
Ken Thompson

Hey all,
I just wanted to let you know I just returned from a great contest down at Triple tree aerodrome in South Carolina where they had the Youth Masters. It was a great contest but a long one. I am tired right now after the 13 hour trip back home so I will get back to all your questions tomorrow morning when I wake up. Thanks a bunch for all your guys support.

Already boys and girls,
I am back after a great day of catching up on some sleep I needed. Hubb when you refer going to LiPo's do you mean as a reciever pack or a electric plane? If for a receiver pack I have thought of that and have put that to action. I am trying some new Apogee's for my sport airplanes. Like my new Quique Yak that I have. It should be the same with 5 digital servos and a YS in the front. I will see how it goes from there. Dewey, I will be coming to some contest with you soon. I need to after the nats we can go and hit some. I will get my H9 ultimate done and go have some fun. Ken, I am very lucky to have such understanding parents who are behind me all the way in everything I do be it airplanes hockey or baseball. I guess I am just very lucky to have parents like that. I also feel very fortunate to have them as well.

Andrew,
I did mean LiPo's as far as Electric power source. I hear that there should be a few of those set ups at the Nats this year. I am very interested in this for a future 2 meter plane for myself.
it is good to hear that you will be making some contests with Dewey. you know that if you build a H9 Ulti then you will put him at a serious disadvantage. as it stands right now I give him bonus points for having the most servos in an IMAC plane [8D][8D]
also, I did not realize you were into Hockey. I am heavily involved in hockey in the Pittsburgh area. give me a shout if you ever want to drive the Zamboni

Hubb,
As far as electric 2m pattern planes I have thought about it and may do something in the future but not right now my YS's are running to good to go to something else. I may take a sport pattern plane and convert it this winter and see how I like it. I figure that within the flying season we will se batteries were we can run 5s3p instead of 4p where weight is crutial. I love the way electrics fly but for now I am going to stick with glow. I LOVE HOCKEY. I might have to take you up on the zamboni drive because I remember being 7 and watching those guys go around the ice and wished I could do that.

Hey Andrew,
I'd like to see your H9 Ultimate when it's up and running. It's sure to blow away my CG 30%.
Are you going with the DA-150?
After mine is put together, with servos and all, I'm going to decide on the engine. If I need 4 to 4 1/2 lbs. to balance I'll use my ZDZ 80. If I need 5 to 5 1/2 lbs. I'll go to the DA-100.
I doesn't matter to me which way I go, as long as the plane does what I want it to.
I can't wait to fly it either way!!!!!

The H9 ultimate sure is a great flying plane. I really like the ones I have flown. We will get it up and going soon. Not sure if it will be done by the rccd contest but if it is I will bring it and fly it some. It will be set up with DA-150 and 8611's all the way around. I may put smoke on it as well. Your Goldberg should fly great. I love the way ultimates fly. They are so precise in rolling circle and any type of roll.

Hey Scott,
I wanted to make the Seekers contest, I figured I'd see you there since I found out you couldn't make it to the YM. I couldn't make it to the contest, had to finish up a job.
My Quest is flying good, but I had my muffler vibrate off and lost it over the weeds somewhere.
Let me know when your going to the field and I'll try to make it.
Sweet pics!
