My FLIP 3D with an OS FS-70 Ultimate engine is ready to fly. I experience some problems with the idle settings of the engine and I have not flown it yet. Its is weight is around 2.5 Kgs, a bit heavy I think but I have not added any extra weight rather than the engine which is heavier than a 40-50 sized one.
I would like to ask about the movements of the control throws and expo rates for the first flight and 3D later on. Can I use the ones of Madness I as indicated in CPLR's web site? Kyosho's manual seems a bit novice I think, it is like a toy manual for my little brother....:-). Also, I am using the following servos:
JR-4231 (6 Kgs) for Elevator, and JR-2235 (5 Kgs but very fast) for the rest (ailerons and rudder) are they good enough?
Anyway, any advice would be more than wellcome. Has anybody of you flown the plane with the OS FS-70 Ultimate engine? I chose it instead of the YS-63 because of its user friendliness but I think I made a wrong decision...I'll try to be optimistic...;-). Currently I have the choice of either using an APC 13-7 prop or a 14-4. Which would be better for the Ultimate you think?

servo's are fine have saw fly with standard servo's . use the apc 14/4!!!! last thing you want if a fast flip 3d . lean out the low end and see if that helps . the pump could be bad .mine was and it ran like heck on the top end even with the satio 82. but idled like crap.
no you made a good choice on the os 70 same weight as a 46 two stroke [8D]

i wnet with full controlls on high expo t soften it all wothout rates. engine should be good in the plane. use the 14x4, however id use a 13x4 if i were you, if not a wide bladed 13x4. good luck, youll love the plane. i did till i crashed it

I too just crash my Flip today. I was hovering 20 ft high w/ 10 mph cross wind and kind of in the sun, and it started to fall off, I pulled full up elevator to loop out of it, except it went the opposite direction from what I expected, thanks to the symmetrical color scheme. I did pulled it to level before it hit the ground, but it did a mini tip stall and the wing tip got the ground @ flying speed. Although I throttled back at moment of touch down, the momentum did break the fuselage aft of the wing. The only thing connecting the front half to the rear half were the servo extensions and antenna. Well, my Flip was getting beat up anyway, as the wing dowel no longer positively locate the wing to fuselage. I did enjoy my Flip through the year, but I now like profiles better. The Flip's specialty is in, well, flips. It does the tightest waterfall out of all my planes.

I love my flip, how do you get on with harrier landings, I was doing a perfect harrier and then when it landed it smashed into the ground and bent the undercarridge, sorted the tail wheel out for y 14x4 prop.
Nickloas, I did reply to your flip question in the 46 enough power thread.
You will need a new undercarrige for the 14x4, almost imposible to land without the prop catching.
that's plenty for the servo's, I'm using 645MG, I know a chap at our field that uses 148's on the ailerons of his 3d 2x2 plane, and it flies fantasic, you don't need so much on the ailerons. WHen I get more money, I'm going to go with the 9102 coreless, or the digi version, less torque, but lighter. so you only need about 3-4kg on the ailerons

I would like to add that I recommend pinning the rudder hinges. Last time i flew my flip i was doing a blender and ripped the rudder off. Amazingly, It didnt fly all that bad without it and landed easy. Good luck with your Flip3D.

The rudder was only attached w/ 2 metal hinges. After so many flights the bottom hinge would completely severe. That's when I re-hinged the rudder using 3 Robart point hinges.
