Default US 60 and 3D??

Hi all...I have a Ultra Stik 60 and before building it I was wondering if I should make some mods to the HS and Rudder to make it waterfall, hover, etc....anybody doing any 3D with theirs?
I thought about moving the HS forward about 1 1/2 to 2 in. and adding about 1 1/2 in to the rudder. I'm going to mount the HS with blind nuts and a couple of nylon bolts so I can experiment with the whole thing. Maybe make a whole new HS...narrower with larger elevator surface. Or maybe it does most everything stock. TIA P^)

Default No No No No No No No!!!!

The only mods you need to do with this plane is go with the recommended Saito FA-100 engine. Out of the box the US 60 will do all of the 3D to some degree. After getting use to the plane and its peculiarities you can plan around with your TX programming mixes and CG to enhance certain maneuvers.

Only physical mod I would and will perform is replacing the landing gear with a taller set so that I can move up to a 15x6 prop.

Hey thanks for the reply Jim...I'll give it a chance stock then but I'm making the HS removable just in case I cant leave well enough alone. 8^) Also easy to replace in case of a very sloppy harrier landing

How, without weakening the structure. You don't want this area of the plane weak. When I assembled mine I left a good size bead of epoxy down both sides of virtical and horizontal stabilizer -- made a pretty good looking fillet.

You must have a different landing gear than I do or you bent it so the wheels are toed in.

Yeh, I could go with the 15x6, but my taxi and takeoff rolls will be hindered by the significant grass I will be cutting. There is no way I could land without stalliing the engine, no matter how gentle the landing.

I am looking at putting one of these together. I currently have an ultra stick 40. The plane would greatly benefit from having a longer rudder and having the horizontal stab moved up higher. Look at the dog house extreme(which is what many of the professionals use, chip hyde etc.). Or look at the Jerry Smith Spoiler www.azarr.com/kits.htm . These are both basically Sticks with the tail modified to get rid of the pitch and roll coupling. I have been around sticks with the rudder lowered 1 1/4" and that helped, but I think that the tail mounted even higher would be better. I am in the process of doing this to a 1.20 size stick and putting a ZDZ 40 on it.

Default US60

I have my us almost read to go...just need to install the tank which I'm putting back as far as possible to the cg. I have a os120 pumped on mine...only motor I had left in glow and I didnt have 280.00 dollars to spend on a Saito 100. put a 16x8 apc on it and have almost 2 in of ground clearance...Jim...I think they gave you a 40 size landing gear.. 8^) I mounted the HS buy putting two blind nuts inside the rudder pocket and drilled through the Hs . soaked the balsa with ca to harden it up a little...if the plane flys ok I'll just remove the bolts add epoxy and bolt it back....I'm off work tomorrow so might get it done for a test flight. think the 120 will be enough power? bfg
