Anyone out there with either a modeltech magic or simply magic or any of those magic planes running a 60 size engine? I have a friend whos gonna gove me a magnum 61 2-stroke for a simply magic i have sitting around and i was wondering if there was any problems with this much power/weight?

wing loading, power to weight isn't a problem, agility is.

so you're saying that its gonna weigh it down and not perfrom aerobatics as well am i correct?

exactly, the Magic is a floaty type of funfly, it works best doing slower on the patch stuff. all that extra weight will just hike up the wing loading and it'll react slower and not really show you what it can do.
you won't loose prophang or TR, but thats not all the plane can do.

if you want to use the 60 look in the next size bracket up.

I completed one of these for my father-in-law. He wanted a K&B Screamin 48 in it. I balanced it at 4.5" from the leading edge and flew it on its maiden flight. I set up the control surfaces on the mild side and the plane flew really well. It could fly fast or slow, tracked well, took off and landed well and was all around a great flying plane. As for a 60 on this plane, you may have some problems balancing it, but it should give you great 3D capability. As mentioned above, you will increase wing loading, but it should not be that bad. By the way, the 48 on my father-in-law's plane is one of the heaviest in its class, so if you find a light 60, I bet it will be pretty close.

ang on! your thinking of a 60! bloody hell! im using a 36 on mine and ill go vertical for ever on 1/2 power. cos its new mines lite so i can hover on 1/3 power, if not less! big isnt always better!

I had to add tail weight with just a 46fx. With a .60 you'll have to add a 46fx to the tail

well my friend gave me the engine. turns out its too big to even fit. so i guess thats the end of that. i realize the weight thing. with a mag 52, i just moved the battery back and it balanced fine so i was hoping that i would just have to add weight to the tail. maybe i'll have to get a 60 size plane now any good aerobatic 60s?

Would a .51 Super Tigre fit the Magic?

i'm sure it would cuz i had a magnum 52 in it. its probably about the size of an os 46 or just a bit bigger.

try a 50 size funfly, Hype for example, the engine would be great in that

who makes that plane? Is it called a Hype? i've never heard of it, where can i find it?

Well I went to the LHS and i was able to get a motor ount that fits so it looks like i might be able to make this work. I'm gonna have to get another piece of 1/4" hardwood and make a new firewall. Also have to get a flight pack cuz i have no radio in it. Thi sis gonna be quite a project but i want to be a mechanical engineer in a few years so it should be good practice. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks for the imput from everybody.

All I can say is move everything back. I have a rossi 45 in mine and its way to much rpms. I had to move the rudder servo the the rear of the plane the battery pack to the rear where the rudder servo should be and add tailweight. Oh don't forget to add wires to your stab for strength and also get rid of the crap landing gear. If I had it to do over I would put in a steerable tailwheel also. Can be a fun plane though!!!!

Good question Chris. And mine came with a steerable tail wheel, in fact there's not many planes that dont have one. And the stock landing gear i have is very heavy duty and will take any hard hit. thanks for the advise though

or you could use a 36 or FP 40 , leave everything where it's meant to be, and fly the thing propperly.[8D]

too many RPM's means the engine was too much for the airframe, it's a slow flying funfly, not a typical US profile hotdog funfly

YS 63 on mine...light, powerful, and quiet!!
