Yeah, I picked up the ARF last weekend, Had it flying the next day. I LOVE THAT PLANE! I'm new to 3D flying but slowly getting the knack. I have never flown the others you mentioned so I cant compare sorry. I can say this. With the Katana things just "feel" easier if that makes sense?? I'm still getting mine dialed in the way I like but even the first flight was a blast! The plane just floats in the air, I missed my first landing 'cause it just wanted to stay up there. It is Lite,Straight,Strong! ( dont ask
) I think there are some diif's between the kit and the ARF, Not sure as to what they are. I don't think they are major.

Bamatim go check out the fun fly and profile planes forum. Plenty of threads going on both the kit and the arf. Couple of flying reports as well. I'm sure you'll be able to make up your mind on those. There is a difference between the kit and the arf of course as the kit was desighned by a fellow Bro and the arf by a completely different company. OMP describes the three 40 sized birds in different levels of flight characteristics. The edge of course for stability and the first step if you will. The katana is one step up from there with a little bit more agility. And then the yak is on top with the most control authority really the beast of em all if you will. But of course the yak is the less stable one. Not making it a beast to fly but just a little bit more of finger tweaker if you will. A little more capable in the high alpha department. I am working on a 47" Yak from OMP and well planning on having all three birds in the near future.

There is a difference in the build between the Katana and the Edge/Yak. The Kata has a lot of pre-cut parts for the fuse and tail surfaces, making the chore of cutting all those sticks at different angles unnecessary. This is a really great idea, and makes building go a LOT faster. The Edge/Yak have foam core fuses, which also go together fast.

No, you still have to cut some, but the outside edges of all the surfaces are pre-cut and notched, so you only have to make straight cuts instead of all those miters. I always hated building ailerons and elevators because of all the cutting/ sanding/ adjusting angles until a piece fit right. This kit makes all that easy.

I just got the arf last week and flew it for the first time tonight. Just to point out a few things. The arf is a 48!QUOT! wing span NOT 46!QUOT! like the web site says. It has 718 sq in of wing area and mine with a lot of heavy items came out to 4lbs 6oz rtf. Very light in my book. The down sides are the instructions, which if you've built a few arfs won't matter because this thing goes together very easy and fast. The balsa sheeting is very soft which i guess helps with the light weight, but i'd feel better with harder balsa. The covering is elcheepo, but again the arf is only $129. The hardware is typical with the worst part being the wheels they are literally the size of a quarter...lol. Now on to the flight performance. I have a ys63fz spinning a 13-4w prop. hitec 5475 digitals on the ailerons and elevator, 5945 on the rudder and a futaba 3003 on the throttle. all on a 4.8v 1650 nimh. No weight savings in any of that stuff huh..
The plane is a rocket ship with the ys 63 on it. It loves hovering and will do it at just over 1/4 throttle. Powering out is awesome like i said rocket like. It flys super light. The only gripe i have is the elevator is limited to 45 degrees of throw which hampers tight waterfalls and a few other high alpha maneuvers. It will be a quick fix with a dremel. The rudder is extremely powerful knife edge flight requires almost no top rudder and ke loops are tight, pin wheels are very easy as well. As i get used to it alittle more i believe this will be the best profile i've flown, I have 3 friends with the omp edge that i have flown quite a bit and to be honest with only 3 flights in the katana blows them away.
