I'm starting to learn how to 3D and I would like a plane that will easily hover.

I just moved up from a Great Planes Super Sportster and a Mini Laser 3D.

I have a U-can-Do and love it.. it will hover great. but a friend of mine has the harrier and i have flown it. In my personal opinnion it is the easiest to hover of them all. I soloed him for the first time 8 months ago and he is allready hovering it

about the only funflys I have hovered are the funtana, Ucando 46 and a Phoenix funstar 3-d. The funtana was work. Had to constantly move the sticks. The funstar was easy. A correction here and there and the nose was up. The Ucando was the easiest. You could get the nose up and tilt it forward just a tad and all you had to do was hold a minimal amount of up elevator and it would just hang there.

I have yet to find planes more stable in a hover than a profile. Have to admit I haven't flown the UCD. But my vote goes for the OMP 47" Edge 540 or the Yak or even the Katana. I fly the Yak now and it is actually possible to do the Qui Qui wave in the hover without too much stress.

Ive flown both the .60 seems better. im using a cheap ASP .91 4 stroke $169 new. flys it in fact better than my O.S. 91 pumped did. both are on 30%. unlike my funtana. where im still adujsting,changing motors,moving weight. and still flys marginal. GP didnt do like H9 their 60 size plane is a 60 size plane.

You are going to get a lot of different answers to this question, but here is my take.....Set Up!
Setting the plane up for hovering and 3d will make that particular plane better at hovering. One key setup point with hovering is thrust line, not only right to left thrust but up and down as well. If you have to hold excess rudder in the hover you have side thrust issues, if you are holding elevator you have up/down thrust issues. Spend time setting this up right!
Next is CG, throw and expo. A plane with a reward cg will be easier to keep in a hover....most if the time! Use the CG, throw and expo to get a good balance of control in forward flight and hovering. There will be a small sacrifice to either side of this set up, but a happy medium is not impossible.....it just takes time.
After all this is done the last factor is confidence and which plane can build that confidence quickly! For this I would recommend something with a thick fun fly wing ( not funtana ) and the lowest wing load possible. Any .40 fun fly plane 4-5lbs with a Satio .72, thick wing, and semi long tail is a good choice. If you are thinking .60 size go with a 6-7.5 lb with a Satio 1.00.
FYI, I own a funtana 40....it is not a 3d trainer, I use it to sharpen my skills for my bigger GS gassers.

got mine off E-bay from a distibuter in canada. they also have a 1.20 4 stroke that retails for $199. Ive heard they are made in the same factory as magnum but I havent seen magnum come out with a 1.20-4 yet so i dont know. If you hold the ASP 91 up to the O.S. 91 they look almost IDENTICAL. but i swear my ASP has more power. but for the money savings I would buy another. egads... asp!?! My only asp wore out in no time at all, + its 2 stroke. THe UCD loves a 4 stroke motor. Get a saito 100, perfect combo fot the .60 UCD. Thats the combo I fly with and a few other guys fly with at my field and all love it. Flys like a feather stings like a bee
Nothing like having the wing loading of a helium baloon and similar flight characteristics. THe 4stroker has TONS of torgue so you can blip it and have power right now, and none of that 2 stroke peakyness forcing you to swing a smaller prop.

the ASP im talking about is 4 stroke.. ive also used there 46s on quickie 500s for combat with no problems. Taching the crap out of them on 15% nitro. sure i wore them out but they were being way over revved took about 2 years

I haven't flown any gas or glow planes yet. But, out of the 3 electrics that I have flown, I find biplanes easier to hover for some reason. Even with the shorter tail moment, corrections just seem to be easier.
