Hey guys, I want to get into 3D flying and was wondering if you have any good 3d kits that would make 3d planes, it will be my third plane and I really wanted to do the Lazer 3d but can't seem to find them anywhere, so I'd like to do the next best thing but I can't find anything that looks good. I'd like it to be .40 to .50 size for price concerns, any help would be greatly appreciated

A profile plane would be perfect for your first 3D plane. There are not too many full fuse kits out there. The 3Styla and Capiche 50 are supposed to be awesome performers, but I don't think you can get them in the US yet.

thanks I'm looking into one of the omp profiles

They are great planes and not a huge investment. I suggest you build the Edge 540 first, as it is supposed to be the most stable in high alpha flight.

The stall isnt funflyish true, but if you learn on a C50 first then get a funfly youd be a better pilot than if you went from funfly to C50.
The stall by the way for anyone who wants to know is almost nonexistant, the plane just goes into an elevator.

If you want to learn 3D follow this sequence:
1) Simulator - I would recommend AFP by IPACS, graphics are not perfect but the physical models are a step far from reality.
2) Foamy (option but not essential, if you can not afford to get into electrics)
3) Profile or Fun Fly model such as Libo, Cougar, Magic, OMP profiles.
4) Good 40 size 3D Fun Fly such as: Flip 3D, Hype, Funtana, Madness, Capiche .etc
I wouldn't recommend you to start with a fancy 40 size model, simply because you're gonna be afraid to fly it low and eventually you're gonna crash it. You have to be relativelly low when you fly 3D in order to be able to see the model better. Fun fly models and profiles are lighter so if you crash them theoritically you have less damage and are much cheaper and easier to build than the rest in many ways.
That's simply my opinion

capiche isnt a fun fly aswell. its described as a mini toc plane. Thin wing stalls, unless u get the funfly wing then it suddenly becomes funflyish

ok guys, remove Capiche from the list we don't fly this in Greece anyway but I have heard of some good comments. I just mentioned some "good" 40 size 3D planes that is worth of buying but in my opinion they are not suitable as entry level 3D models. Some of them such the Madness and Flip are rather expensive ranging 170-200+ GBP plus the modifications required + a reliable 60+ size four stroke + good servos. The budget required for a good 40 size 3D plane is not negligible and should not be considered as a 3D trainer.

this sounds cool I think I'll do the edge 540 eventially.... right now I'm saving for a .46 something
then I'm going to get a Futaba 7caf, or cap haven't decided yet
then I'll get the edge 540...
when I cover it I've been throwing an Idea around for covering.
Could I stain the wing and control surfaces then cover the profile of the plane in gold monokote and the wing and surfaces with clear monokote. Would that work?

Why spend hours building when you can have a pukka light 3D plane covered in Profilm for under £140??

Ian,
I flew my Cougar 2000 a few times during the weekend. I placed a 30gr weight on the tail and I moved my battery rearwards. Well I can say it was awesome!!! For the first time I nearly touched the tail to the ground, and I perfromed the Pogo (hover up and down). I really trust this plane and the West Eurotech 36T1 is a diamond, very powerfull!! Problems were resolved, the Weston glow plug was faulty, I replaced it with an OS No.8. It works a bit rich at the moment with Model Technics 10% Niitro Contest with Klotz and makes my plane a bit oily, but nevermind I don't want even to think an engine stall so low due to lean mixture setting. I use an 11x4 APC but I'll also try an 11.5x4 to see how it goes.
I trust this plane more than my Flip 3D, I can have better authority in hover due to the higher power to weight ratio. Flip is more stable in hover but I'm afraid of coming very close to the ground I don't trust its engine a lot (OS 70 Ultimate). Cougar is very light though 1.6 Kgs and when it is windy is a bit shaky. I also did what you wrote the other day, I flew a harrier towards the wind with 1/4 throtle and the plane was moving rearwards. Awesome!!! There were some guys at the airfied who seemed very impressed by the model and engine combo. Highly recommended for fun fly and prop hanging trainer.
Here is a static photo of my Cougar with my 1/4 MW Giles powered by a YS 140. As you can see the day was perfect on Sunday.
