Default AMA rules on 3d

Would someone point me to the link that has the exact wording of the new AMA rules concerning not touching the aircraft while in the air?

Thanks
Craig

Default Interesting -

It shows up on the agenda for the AMA Executive Council meeting for June 14th, but does not show under the motions tab. No minutes have been posted so I do not believe it has officially passed.

Tail touches were allowed at the AMA Scale Aerobatic Nationals in July so I am willing to bet it is either dead or tabled.

Still - common sense tells you that this stuff is dangerous AND expensive. Ask anyone who has done tail touches how many servos they have replaced and how many times they have rebuilt their rudder.

BTW - the notes do mention that an Open Membership will be $58 next year.

Of course it is dangerous and expensive, it would not have the "ahhh" affect that it does if it wasn't.

I thought tail touches would still be allowed, just not grabbing the airplane, which takes some serious ---- to do.

Not that I can do either one of these things, I was just curious what the latest was on it.
Thanks
Craig

Default AMA is out of touch

>>>Still - common sense tells you that this stuff is dangerous AND expensive.

Man - now we have the AMA looking out for our expenses.

They have the worst magazine out there of any assocaition I belong to and should have the best - (Ham radio opps - does this even come close to QST?)

Goofy guys write really stupid columns about throttling technology (the GPS/Gyro gizmos) - it's our responsibility NOT do this - like that is going to happen Of course I wonder how the AMA feels about the recent trans Atlantic attempt when they got plastered all of the Wash Post.;

They say they look out for our interests on the hill - make no mistake - the manufactueres will and do - AMA membership mearly subsidizes this process for their benefit. Case in point - creating a rule on the use of the Hitec Spectra module in Futaba radios.

The ONLY reason I joined is because the club I fly at requires it for the insurance. If/When my field closes - this membership gets dropped like a hot potato and I will go back to relying on my 2 MIL umbrella coverage as I fly in schoolyards.

WHAT WE NEED is an alternative organization to cover the insurance only needs flyers - an alternative to AMA.

Heck I'd pay $75/year to RCM, Model Airplane News OR RCUniverse for their publication AND the insurance.

How about it RCU - can you get us all insurance?

Bottom line - the AMA exists only because we are all forced to join.

Yea, I hate it when someone points a gun at me and forces me to do something.

Default .

There is none. Too many heart attacks if there was. They don't even chase after the airplanes on foot anymore. I've seen them blazin' through the field on a moped or in a golf cart. Hey maybe thats why they do it, because its like golf! You hit the ball and then chase after it. You start the airplane and then chase after it.
Oh well to each his own, eh? I bet they think what we do is the dumbest thing they have ever seen. Then they will tell you that back in 1940 they used to do the same thing with reeds and transmitter stations as big as a car.

Default No touching!!!!!

If you read the AMA safety rules for 2003, it states clearly in heavy print that touching of a model aircraft while in-flight voids the AMA insurance coverage.
Only dangerous flyers would want to do this anyhow!

"9) Under no circumstances may a pilot or other person touch a powered model in flight."

That's straight from the AMA site. No mention of tail tapping. Also, I'd interperet that when you are hand launching a model, it is not considered 'in flight'. No need to get excited about something that isn't there. A little research would have prevented the previous couple posts.

Ryan.

You must have been a Lawyer in a previous life......

Bottom line is the AMA isnt going to cover you if you whack yourself with a plane that you were trying to touch.

In reality, they arent going to cover you for things you think they would anyway.

They have attorneys also and their interpitation isnt going to be the same on a given rule as the average persons interpitation.

Thats the interesting part. However, Stalled and In-flight are very well defined terms as its it relates to aircraft. Lawyers will have a very hard time re-defining those terms.
