nat haveing any luck with pictures, but just immagine 2 links going strait up from the swashplate to the blade grips, thats all it is... a friend of mine has one so i know they exist

yea, cuz it will be changing pitch all the time, so it will be at a lower pitch most the time anyway. I think 3 blade would be better, it will be less chance of something going wrong bc it wont be swinging as much weight on one blade grip. I hope that made sense.

you also have to think about the blade size and ground clearence. so a 4 or even a 5 blade might be a better option. this way you will be able to have shorter blades. maybe making custom wide blades instead of skinny cutdown heli blades will give more thrust?

Thats wierd. I was thinking about this idea at the model field today. I was thinking that on a large gasser the best set up would be to have the throttle stick control the pitch of the blades and have the carby control run by a governer to maintain the correct engine RPM. So who's first?

What's funnier 'den hell, is I was JUST KIDDING with my avitar (photo shop)! Good Night! I'm even a little ambarrased about it (the joke avitar). The fact that somebody ACTUALLY did it is absolutely stupifieing to me. So I wanna turn my 3d Magic into a variable pitch and I wanna practice first, any ideas?

Nice, so you can setup a variable pitch prop (reversable) and the physics seem to account for it properly? From what I've seen so far of actual videos, you can really only momentarily hover inverted, looks like you can go up and down a bit to get some tail control.
Can you imagine full scale dogfighting with this config? Jeez!

Well, G3 does not have the option to add a reverable prop facing the right direction. So I added a thruster, and it has reverse thrust. The thruster is controlled on a switch, POS. 1 = no thrust, POS. 2 full thrust. The throttle on the engine is used to fight the negative thrust which lets you control altitude. Since the engine is still blowing air over the surfaces you can control the plane. But i figured it would control the same if you had paddles for your rudder and elevator in real life.

Truthfully, i doubt we will be seeing 40%ers doing this for a very longtime, bc who is willing to risk their 6 to 9,000 dollar airplane? Plus, we havent even figured it out with foamies yet. Thats just my opinion. But who knows, maybe quique will introduce another dimension of flying w\ a 40%er.

Yea, not sure where all the xD comes from, but I would say this qualifies to push from x to x+1, whatever the previous standard was 3D or 4D, So this would be 4D or 5D. hehe. Was there a legitimate manuver that qualified to become 4D before this?

no offence to the guy that made 5D but since when have planes been able to travel through time too?

in respect to the 40%er question, i'll be flying a 40% funtana at the freestyles in september in the UK with vari pitch props all being well
if not then i'll have to settle for a .90 sized with vari pitch prop

Has anyone put, basically, a heli rotorhead on the front of a plane? Then you'd have collective AND cyclic! You could add somemore torque forces to the pitch and yaw of the plane. You could also mix the cyclic with the tail surfaces (normal and/or reverse). It'd be alot of work, but I suspect somebody has done it or will soon.

It would be quite an undertaking, I can't wait to see the first one! I just got a new Funtana 90 sitting in a box, hmm...
I think most heli main rotors only run around 1500-2000 RPM, wonder if the rotor head and linkages would need to be more robust to run in the 8000 RPM range.

Im wondering about the electric thing. Because the output shaft that you control the pitch with is rotating so how do you effectively make a system that would grip the shaft, I was thinking a bearing inside of an arm and two collars on each arm to control it. Does anybody have pics of there setup.
