What are you guys using for an engine mount for the YS 91 in an all wood pattern plane? I looked at the Gator RC Soft-n-safe mount, but it looks heavy. I have also considered a regular beam mount, but am concerned about vibration.

Thanks,

Bryan K.

Default Hyde Mount

Go with the Hyde mount...It truly is the best soft mount on the market.......NO maintenance and it will outlast your airplane.....Not only that but simple to install and we have been using them in pattern planes now for almost 10yrs....I have never heard of a failure and I can tell you this once you run one you'll never go back to any of the Gator-Dave Brown-or other soft mounts....They don't compare.

The other just put your motor on a rubber "cushion" the Hyde Mount converts the vibration into rotational motion and is very good at it.

They cost a little bit more but the savings will be in fixing your servos 2-3 times more often. I can get up around 200-300 flights on a set of servos before the Pots get worn and need service....On the hard mounted engines of the past I could only get 100 flights if I was lucky.

Go with the Hyde!

Hi,

I think the hyde mount is overpriced and not necessary for this engine. The gattor mount is very light as I have one for the YS140.

I have used the 91 on many different aircrafts without any soft mounts. They work great and have never had a problem with vibration induced problems.

But if you really insist on a soft mount, than I think the gator mount is the way to go. It is light and cost less than half the price of the Hyde mount.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Azhar

PS: I have a CAP with about 200 flights on it without any problems with the servoes. It has a 91 with no soft mounts.

Troy,

I should have specified that I can't use a Hyde mount because this plane uses a fiberglass cowl. ( no way to mount a nose ring) I would use one if I could though.

Azhar,

Do you happen to know what the gator mount weighs?

Thanks, Bryan

Bryan,

I am not sure of the weight exactly but it is definitely less than the glass-filled or alluminium mounts. I'll see if I can weigh it accurately and pass the information on.

The Gator 91 mount weighs 130g...very light and works great if you don't need or want a nose ring. Du-bro's are good as well, but they are heavy...220g. I use them in the circumstance that I need a little nose weight.

Most YS fliers that I know use the JTEC mount. No Vibration like the fiberglass or beam type. See them at http://www.jtecrc.com/

Of course this is my opinion after trying others first.

You can use a Hyde with a fiberglass removable cowl !!

Check this link to find out how. Bob Pastrello , Dick Hanson, and Ola Flemming have being doing it awhile with great results.
Actually , they are doing it with a self-made Hyde mount.
I built one myself just this evening. Easy to do, and better than spending $129.

Bob Also just built a 140 2 Stroke pipe for his Webra 145 that test at 96 db for $10.. Instructions on his website for it as well.
