Honest Answers please: I have an MVVS 1.6 gas here that i'm considering putting in a creek model.
Looking at the Katana and SG600. Which flies better?? which would be a better match to the 1.60?? If necessary it could be changed, and I know you'll all tell me too, and I know it would be better to go for a 1.6FX or similar.
Do they go together OK?? Is the Katana any good for pattern??
Please, simple answers...... i'm not looking for technicalities, just wanna know if they fly anything like good.
or will a H9 732 cap w/ Moki 1.35 be better?

Have you read the review I did for RCUniverse Magazine
http://www.rcuniverse.com/reviews.ph...ew&reviewid=19
I think you will be more than fine with the MVVS.

I have the Creek Staudacher with OS 1.60. It flies really smooth with its long tail moment, especially w/ a higher pitch prop (17x8) for higher airspeed. I mean, it flies like a patter plane, other than the fact it has pitch and roll coupling with rudder input. It does knife edge loop if I correct w/ same direction aileron and up elevator throughout the loop. Looping maneuvers are smooth.
Its 3D, on the other hand, I can't get it to do too well yet. It will probably do 3D well, but requires more skill than Katana would. Its control surface is pretty sport sized, if you know what I mean. With max deflection, I can't get the inverted spins to flat out. I tried "elevator" maneuver, and there's just not enough elevator surface to enter elevator.
I tried the flip w/ full down elevator, and it would just do a small, slow outside loop
Maybe I need more than 45 deg deflection on the elevators that are only a fraction of the stablizer size. Maybe I am just not good enough.

I also have a Creek Katana on order. According to info posted here the plane will require approx. 2.75 lbs (44 oz.) to balance with three servos in the tail. My MVVS 1.60, ignition module, Bisson muffler and an 1100 mAh nicad weigh 43 oz. Add an 18x6 prop for a potent combo..

Hey,
If I were you, I would get the Katana just because the other planes are starting to get mundane. Katana is kind of special. Make sure they give you yellow wheel pants to match the plane, unless you like the red ones for that special artistic touch
Oh, and the cowl's yellow doesn't exactly match the rest of the plane. But theoretically, it should 3D the best out of the bunch. Yes, and put the 18x6 prop. 17x8 is more for pattern flying. Good luck!

I have the Katana with a MVVS 160 and here are my comments: The cowl color match to the fuselage is pathetic. I was almost tempted to repaint it. That is my only complaint on the construction of the plane. The rest of the construction is very sturdy and light for its size. A constructive suggestion to Creek Hobbies though would be to use built up tail feathers instead of the slabs of wood. This could save some weight and eliminate the tail heavy problem everyone is having.
The finished weight of the plane came in at 12 lbs even with the plane balanced at the rear CG location. This was found to be too far back for my taste and I added a few ounces to the nose. I also didn't use the red wheel pants to save on weight.
Flight performance was borderline with an APC 18x8 at 7300 RPM. I have tried different props at this size and smaller and this one seems to perform the best. I find that you need to get over the 7000 mark for this engine to kick in. This is also with the BCM inverted muffler. Verticals were okay. Loops can be done some what large. Take offs on grass are some what long. It appears to have problems over coming the drag from the grass. Were it seems to have most of the problems is in the speed. To get a prop that provides enough thrust , you sacrifice in speed. The speed envelope is reduced to a very narrow band. Knife edge is only sustainable at full throttle and full rudder( and thats one big rudder). But what is interesting is that the plane doesn't appear to be too heavy. Bringing the throttle down I would have expected a wing to drop when I reached stall speed. This did not happen, the plane just mushed over slowly without any wing tip stall.
I have only 4 flights it so far. I have some ideas about reducing some weight, and maybe trying a prop with more pitch to see what more speed will do.
Thats my two cents worth, take it or leave it.

Is yours set up with servos in the fuse or in the tail?
As for props... try an APC or Zinger Pro 18x6. With a broken-in engine you should get 8000+ RPM and lots of thrust.
