I agree on the 13X4W on 20%... I have never tried 30%... When I tried
the 14X4W with 20% for me it did not keep the R's up enough... So I
went back to the 13X4W.. And it does good on 15 or 20% powermaster
on my UCD46/YS63 IMO...

I tried the 14X4W and I wasn't convinced. The YS63 had less thrust/acceleration than the Bolly Clubman 13.5X6 I had on before plus it was really slow.
Id recommend the 13.5X6 for 30% nitro, touch smaller if on less nitro.

If you want pure 3D then 4" pitch is nice but if its more than just that take a 6" prop ... hence 14x4 vs. 13x6. Alternatively, you can get something 'in between' but purchasing a wooden prop of about say 15x6 and then cutting it down to 13x6, now what you have is a 13x6 semi W prop (as I call it). The wooden prop will give you a faster spool up too. Its something to think about.

I've always wanted to try a good wood prop on my YS 63. The APC 13x4W is nice but it's heavy. Who sells a good efficient wood prop in the size 14x4?

tIANci - how do you cut it down? you don't take a pair of garden clippers and clip the ends off. do you have to refinish it? i assume balancing is a must but how can you be sure the two blades are making the same amount of thrust?

RE: YS 63FZ prop on H9 Funtana 40
i have just maidened my funtana 40 with an APC 13x4W on 30% and it was way WAY underpropped. i was overheating the engine flying around at half throttle. so i flew around at 3 clicks above idle and only intermittently went to half throttle to hold a hover. in that way, the plane flew slow but fine.
i will try with a 13 x 6 (recommended by some flying guys running 33% gassers) and the 14x4W as well. i feel that the 4 pitch really is very slow and hover was completed at a little less than half throttle running very very rich (plumes of white smoke). still i had 5-6 10 minutes flights (could've flown for 20 min no prob) and was still entertaining since it's the first 3D plane i have. here is a pic of my funtana...

Forestroke - did not know u got the F40, you really had a lot of time on your hands huh? Love the cover job. You are best turning a 13x6, with 30% nitro it should give you about 10,750 RPM or maybe just 11,000 RPM a 14x6 might give you 10,000 RPM. The YS63 loves to run in the 12,000 RPM range. I just saw one run today and it was totally LOVELY, sounds so much better than my Saito for sure! No more Saitos, I am a YS convert ... the 160 is on its way and I am keen to pick the 63 too.
As for cutting the prop you need a table jig/band saw. Yes, need to ensure its cut evenly on both sides and also re-balanced.

RE: YS 63FZ prop on H9 Funtana 40
i've actually put a lot of other projects on hold and took about three weeks of free time (particularly rainy weekends) to assemble the funtana. the covering pattern i also like but my skills are very bad and i'm sad to say that the surfaces are littered with air bubbles... but once in the sky, it's pretty :-)
i will try the 13x6 next weekend. ciao! i love Y.S. as well. i'm still deciding between the hurricane (which is getting a FEMA starter and a ASP or O.S. 120) or the yaks CMP or EF. that plane will get the dingo. i'm leaning toward the hurricane at this point. don't know yet, though. the EF yak came with water damage and i've had to strip the tail to evacuate water from the sealed vertical stab. so i've got to recover the back and i HATE doing that... just takes me sooo long. the funtana took longer to cover than to assemble! keep you posted.

RE: YS 63FZ prop on H9 Funtana 40
I have a funtana 40 with Ys63, 13x4 APC and Heli 30%. Me and my buddy tach it at 12,000 but it was too lean. I richened it up to run at about 11,300. Plenty of power! I do have a question about servo's though. I have been running Ds811 Jr's at 6.0v on my Funtana 40 for about a year and I really hate them. They jitter like crazy untill I deflect the surface. I want to switch and use some Hitec servos I have but I don't know if they will have enough torque. I want to use 425BB and a 475HB on the rudder using the 6.0 volt nimh I have been using all along. Now I know the 475 at 6V has 70oz which will be plenty for the rudder but what about the 57 or 60 oz that the 425bb put out at 6V for the elevator and ailerons, would this be enough torque? I tried to find specs on my ds811's to see how much torque they are putting out at 6V but I cannot find any specs. Anyone know? I think on 4.8V the Ds811 puts out like 50oz. Let me know guys I really want to switch to these Hitecs if they will work.
Thanks,

Zinger makes a 14x4 woden prop, maybe it is a nice compromise to 3D, any experience on this prop?
Ps: I can barely wait my ys63 to arrive right now

RE: YS 63FZ prop on H9 Funtana 40
tIANci - that would rip it apart!!! i'm already a little hesitant on the dingo since EF has only a 110FZ and it's already pulling out of hovers with stomping authority. on a separate note, my friend has one with a 26cc gasser and it was enough to hover but not enough to pull out... just fell out of hovers. i think, build it light and a 110-120FZ would be great. It's built so light (firewall outside the engine mount is just covering) that I'm afraid the DZ will all but rip it to shards. But it is pretty. HEY, you're an evil thread hijacker!

Any wooden prop is too light for 4 stroke engines. 4 strokers love heavy props. It is hard to get a reliable idle with wood prop.
but a 14`APC prop seems to be too heavy so this is a big woden prop, thus I can imagine (I have never used it) that it may load the engine adequately
Have anyone used it?

Forestroke - I can highjack YOUR thread as you are my partner in crime!!! Okay ... I got the YS110 and would love to put it in a F40 but it ended up in my F90 turning an APC 16x6 ... hey man with Cool Power 30% heli fuel of which I am advising you to use in your YS63 attached to your F40 (I am trying not to highjack this thread), I am getting 10,200 RPM! But of course I fly at about 9,700 RPM only. She can haul ass!!! The YS has a great idle ... so sweet and lovely. For me this is one easy engine to start and tune.
Anyways, the YS140DZ and YS160DZ have the same weight so I went for the 160. Will let you know what plane when I decide.

tIANCi - please do!!! I would love it. I am considering buying a new radio... my main radio now is the hitech eclipse but i'm considering buying either a 9CAP or a JR 9X. i really don't like the 9CAP but because my hitec spectra is suppose to fit in it (albeit illegally) i'm leaning toward that in functionality. but i really rather own the 9X. what do you think?

Based on feel alone I would not wanna touch the 9CAP, the gimbals are rought and so are the switches. I find the 9X more user friendly than the 9CAP, 9X screen is easier to work with. The finish if the 9CAP does look cheap. I say go for the 9X.
