Shaun,
I use the wheel pants and have had no problem on grass with them.
24 oz tank and 12 min. flights leave me 1/2 a tank.
Wings and Elavator hitec 5625 (over kill in the wings but I had them)
Rudder JR 2721
I have a 18/6 prop

Don't try to start this engine with a glow starter as it is hard to get it to fire.
Use a 12 volt Batt. and crank the voltage up through your field box and it will start fast and easy.
Feel free to ask if you have other questions.

Well the airplane seems bigger than the tana with a bigger wingspan is because it has two wings. With two wings an airplane of equal size will require less wingspan. So the 60" wingspan maybe similar to a 72" wingspan of a monoplane. But I agree with everyting 76ta says about the airplane. It flies beautifully. I will try to get my cameraperson (my girlfriend) out to the field next weekend and get some footage for ya. TTYL

I don't know if you thought about batteries yet, but I just got a NoBS 1950 MAH 6v NiMH in mine and it handles the servo load like nothing. It is pretty light at 6oz and will last all day. Go with a micro on the throttle too. I got the micro hitec that does .09 for speed. It is quick as ever. Hows the airplane coming. Won't be able to get you some vid till this weekend when I do go flying again.

Hey Zope,

I have a friend that is going to let me use a light weight 6v Lipo for a battery.

She's coming along pretty good. I now have all the surfaces glued on. I mounted the motor in last night. I just put the servos in the wings tonight. I still need to order a spinner. I also need to pay a visit to the lhs to pick up some stronger clevises. I'll be off work Fri,Sat,Sun,and Mon. So I should get it finished this weekend.

You had better hurry up with that video!!! I am really looking forward to seeing it!!!!

Here's a picture with a way to small spinner[].

I had the ulty with the 1.60 onit and it was awsome in power espically with a 18-6 w apc prop. mine came in at 12lbs 6 oz's.

The only problem your going to have if your using a pitts muffler. is that the muffler dont create enough back pressure and it make the motor lean out at full throttle. you need to put a pump on it like 76.ta said. i had a cline on mine and it wroked out great.

Man i wish i still had that plane it did the most awsome inverted flat spins.

Good luck on your ulty.

Your Ultimate looks good! I been flying mine alot lately. I only got a few flights on it last season before the weather got bad. But now its tuned in and I love flying it. Here are some pictures from yesturday at the field of it. When cleaning it up, I saw that 2 of the rudder hinges broke. So I replaced them with lot better ones. I used the stock ones. They seem to be ok. As for battery, I use a 6v 1650 nimh and it is plenty for all the servos.

Thanks Dennis.

I have a perry pump on it .I haven't got it screwed to the firewall just yet though. I ran it a little just with the pitts style muffler and yes you are right. It came alive when I hooked up the pump to it!!

Ryan - Great pictures! Got any of you hovering? I used the ca hinges too. Time will tell? With all the people coming forward and saying good things about this plane. I just can't wait to get her up.

I dont have any pictures of it hovering besides the 2nd picture above. It hovers pretty good, and the YS give you extra, so the 1.60fx should to. I'll try to get some hovering pictures this weekend when I fly it again.

What's the best way to hook up the ailerons. Just use a "y" on each side?.

Thats what i did and it works fine. U could do each aileron having their own channel, but That would just add more complexity with not much more function in my opinion. Just get the Heavy duty cables and you will be fine.

The O.S. 160 is the perfect engine for this plane, I've had my ultimate for 3 years and about 250 flights and the only problems I've had are a few broken hinges and some loose covering. I've got Futaba 9402's in the fuse and 9602's on the wings, high speed high torque is what you need for this plane. My ultimate came out at 12lbs 2oz with the 160, pitts , tru turn spinner, and a little extra lumber behind the firewall, set up per the instructions. I've not had any problems with the pull pull system although I had to replace a few tail support wires, I do not have a pump on mine as I have not noticed any problems with full throttle leaning, I am very seldom at full throttle with this airplane, you do not need it, hovering at about 30%. This is probably the best plane I ever had, very forgiving, yet it will do anything you ask including the best inverted flat spin you will ever see. Good luck and enjoy Gunfighter II

Well I got some footage, but unfortunately with some crash footage attached. When I find a place to host the file I will post it. The airplane is very salvageable. Probably only a few hours and some epoxy. Should be back up this weekend. Hope everyone else had good days at the field.

Dang'it......... [] I'm sorry to hear the bad news. I hope it didn't do to much damage!!!
I just got back in from flying. Had a great fun fly day. Placed fourth. Sold two planes so that I could finish out the Ultimate today.I guess it was a pretty good day in all.
I would still love to see some footage of your flight.

Where is your CG at? Mine is currently at the aft end of the recommended range, and I can get it to harrier pretty well. It does want to rock the wing, but manageable with aileron corrections. I found out that rudder correction for harrier wing rock is a no-no on this plane.

not much damage. Dinged a small section of the leading edge, ripped out one of the mountings for the bottom wing, broke off the middle thingy on the bottom wing, one cabane mounting went through the servo tray and thats pretty much it. I was playing with the idle today so I got it lower than usual and thought I was much faster on final, but in fact I was about to stall. I thought that the grass was flat there, but it was on a hill. My fault totally, kicking myself over it, but I have to say, WOW, this airplane held up really well. I have actually made this same mistake on my little ulty about 5 years ago. Man, I hope i don't have to keep having refreshers. I have some time this week, so I will be putting her back together. Its just part of this hobby.

Hehe,
I got some time tonight. I will post it. Just got to figure out how to reduce the file size. I just bought a sony dvd-r camcorder that takes widescreen and 5.1 surround sound, so needless to say its quite a big file! I will try my best to get it online for you tonight. I am still getting used to this airplane, so some of my stuff is pretty sloppy, and I am still trying to get the mixing down for the rudder, so no low knifes, but it shows you how nice this airplane is to fly. My inverted spin got somewhat flat and I wasn't even trying to go flat.

An update on myh fixes, about 2 more hours and she'll be ready. She's built like a rock, after you see the crash vid, man you will wonder how it didn't explode into pieces. See ya.

Alright, it is 1am in the morning, but hell, I finally got it online. It has my first couple attempts at an inverted spin (the airplane makes me look really good. hehe) and then the fateful final. I see now how stupid i was watching the video back, so please no preaching, I know my mistake and probably won't do it again for a couple years. :P Hope you guys enjoy it. When I have so more energy I will compile the highlights of the day.

have it in the front of the recommended range. Thats why my regular flat spins weren't too flat, but were getting there. Still getting acquainted with the airplane so I think after I fix her up I will just practice stop and goes for a few flights than start to fool with cg, and what not. I will see if I can post another vid today.

Zope,

What software did you use to edit the video? If you use Windows Movie Maker, then I find the best format to export to is .mwv @ 358 kbps. It will keep a minute video under 20 MB.

Of course, the best format to export to is MPEG4, but I haven't found a free MPEG4 encoder yet.

I just bought a Sony DVD-R camcorder for my father-in-law. I got last year's model, w/ 4:3 aspect ratio screen, because he likes its bigger screen than the new wide screen. Besides, he will not be having a wide screen TV to play the videos on over at Taiwan, not for the next decade or so.
