I just ordered this engine for my TOC 30% FLAME YAK.
I want to know what propeller gives the best 3D performance. The propeller range is 22x10-26x10. Would the 26x10 be the best prop for 3d, I have no idea?
I also want to put it on a canister. Where can I look at mufflers for this engine, I think the MVVS brand would fit too b/c it is the same engine.
Any help would be much appriciated!!!

I have the MVVS 58 Prosport and aside from a few changes they are the same motors. I went with a Slimline DA-50 pitts muffler and I ordered a 24x10 prop as I was told the 26x10 would have clearance issues on a 30% plane. My information came from David Moen the MVVS importer in Canada. Check out the other threads on the MVVS 58 and check out David's web site http://www.mvvs-canada.com/index.htm

What about the propeller?
My yak has huge ground clearence with the big gear it comes with and is the 24x10 the best for 3d. Also where can you purchase Mejzlik props and carbon fiber spinners and how in the world do you drill holes in the prop for the engine.

You can order the props and spinners from either DA or Troy Built Models. Gene at TBM is a great guy to deal with and he will drill the prop and spinner and cut the slots in the spinner for you. I cant remember how much, but I do remember that it was well worth the price he charged. If you would rather do it yourself, both places sell a drill jig that makes drilling them perfect.

If you want big 3D performance--then you need a prop with big diameter and low pitch. Thats standard deal with a 3D machine. You want as much diameter as possible and a very low pitch. This combo will allow the engine to revv up very quickly and get you up into the powerband. In the powerband on the engine is where you want to get--QUICKLY--and the low pitch allows you to rev quick. The big diameter generates tremendous thrust--and it does it quick, because the engine is revving fast.
What you want, is instant throttle response from idle to full throttle. When you smack the throttle stick--it needs to rev up to full RPM as quickly as possible--while providing lots of thrust.
You can put a 20-16 prop on it--and it will rev up quick--but your thrust will be lousy and your top speed will exceed the airframe capacities.
I'd look at a 24-8 for that engine and see how it pulls. Try to prop your engine for about 1000-1500RPM short of the MAX rated RPM. It will unload in the air and get you close to the MAX RPM for the engine. Thats where the power is.
Drilling holes in the prop:
Buy a prop drill jig from the manufacturer or find out if it is patterened after the DA or 3W hubs--and buy their prop drill jig.
Cannisters:
They are quiet--but they cost you in performance and weight. Do you really NEED a quiet plane where you fly?
I'd use the LEAST restrictive muffler I could get my hands on. More of an "Exhaust Diverter" than a muffler.
If you want huge power and can afford the 1.5--2LB. weight penalty--then put a tuned pipe on it. Gassers react differently too a tuned pipe than a glow engine.
A lot of times--a tuned pipe on a glow engine will ruin part of the running characteristics. Maybe it will run like a bat-outta-heck on the top end--but the pipe ruins the transition and idle. Or visa versa. It will idle and transition nicely--but no top end. Its a challenge--but can be done correctly--if your patient. Sometimes, it CAN'T be done, and the glow engine will just run like a turd with any tuned pipe on it.
Gassers are different. I don't know why. Most gassers will resond VERY WELL to a tuned pipe. It smooths out the transition and sometimes helps eliminate a midrange gurgle. It definetly helps the top end--a lot.
So--get a tuned pipe or another muffler thats as free-flowing as possible. EX: LOUD
Stay away from the cannisters. They are heavy and you will loose power.

I thought that cannisters helped power and were like a tuned pipe.
All this is very helpful but is no use if I dont know where to get the mufflers.
Thanks for telling me about how they drill fore you DA EDGE!!!!!!!!!!

Course- if youre flying field is around 10000' - weight and power are issues- When ever it's over 23 degrees F the plane thinks it's even higher than 10000' I have 2 fields one at home in Cripple Creek ( 9494') and one in Milwaukee ( 723') Leadville is ht e highest paved aiport in North America 9927' the town is over 10000' surrounded by 14400'+ mountains! - God I miss home!

I have heard it urns better than the da'a and that is has awsome power and it is awsome in the yak.
However I have never done gas before and looking at the very small firewall on the yak and the whole kinda week firewall box, it isnt really weak when you reinforce it though, I sent the engine back for a da 50.
If I could do it over I would go with the evo. I have heard atleast 10 people talk about it on here and the cirkus and all everyone ever says is how smooth and reliable it is and how much power it has.
Get it!

I have a EVO 58 on my Wildhare Ulti and it runs great. For breakin without the cannister use a menz or msc 24x8 prop. Also a very good prop for 3D but this engine might overrev once broken in with this prop, so I would then up that to 24x10 or 12.
If you go to Moens site he has a video of the 58 (MVVS) with the new MVVS cannister spinning a 26x10 mejlick at 6000 rpm and hovering a 35% plane with tons of pullout power.
My engine on a converted Ultrathrust muffler from my ZDZ 50 is turning the menz 24x8 at 6700rpms and it's not broken in. Also using 30:1 mobil 1 mx2t.
I think the best part of owning this engine is the fact that horizon stocks every single part.
