1/2 inch behind the spar is where I would like to have it CG. I installed ALU. landing gear and add some support to the landing gear area(front). I think this is what has me off so bad. She CG perfect when the battey is placed behind the f3 bulk head. This will require a little cutting and time. I would add some weght to the tail, but she is off bad. I laid 3 1/2 oz that did not do the trick, so I decied to take the battery position option. Thanks I will report!

Ok all done. Engine broke in and everything down to the last strip. I had to move the battery inside the Fus. about 3" behind the f3 bulkhead. The cause of being really nose heavey was the added ALU. landing gear and the added suport too. By adding foam wheels and moving the battery, I am CG at about 3 1/8" back from leading edge. The Rossi 40 really seems to like the APC 10x6 prop. I hope to make a first flight tomorrow or the next day. I will report how she does. My last question that you fine people may can help me with is the prop I need. I have the fllowing on hand in the range of the Rossi 40. I would like to thank all for your help. I have my fingers crossed in hopes she will fly well.

Stick with the 10*6 for a while. Let that motor get good and broke in. What fuel are you using on it? I hope it is 5% nitro or less. FAI

I am using 15%. I have always been told by most to use the 5%, but they have always done fine. The rossi temp is most of the time low on the 15% except with a long pipe. please do not take this the wrong way, but why use the low Nitro. Is in because of dead sticks. I know that the Moki bigger engine will not run well at all with anything over 5%. I have some 10% I use with a 1/4 stick and a ST 2300. I may need to use it for a while.

Report!!!!! The uproar flies awesome.

The whole problem with the uproar and 3d I think is the tail section. The elevator is fine, but the lack or travel of the rudder makes real 3d almost impossible. There is simply no room for movement thus control. A high rate of 1†is sad. Julian537 made the right call by adding rudder control. If I could do it again I would take a ¼ off the insides of the elevators and add ¼ to the length of the elevators. I would also add ½ to the rudder I made the rudder as in the plans, but now I am already finished with a ½ extension to the rudder as it needs at least that after today maiden flights (7 total). I am going to fly her with the added rudder and see if I need to modify like I wished I did had done in the first place. If the added rudder does not solve the problem I will tare down the tail and rebuild it as I should have.

The turtle deck that I designed works very well and is well worth the effort. I can promise you that. It aided in the Knife, but man it was a huge difference in the tracking of the bird. It was on a rail, and we had a light wind today. In fact a fellow member of my club is buying the kit and installing the Mods I made; plus the ones I see that it is in dire need of for real 3D after seeing her fly.

I have read that the uproar is not a 3d plane, simply not so. It only need a few mods to do 3d. So if anyone would like the modification I made, just pm me and I will gladly give them to you. If you have made some modification please post them.

I would go back and make the elevator more than half of the horizontal stab!

After the first flight I put in some elevons and it seemed to take care of that aspect. How much rudder did you add Julian537 ? I went 1/2 more. O, the CG you posted was on the money!

Thanks

I am out of town right now.....
When I get home this weekend I will post what size the rudder is over stock. I still have the rudder from this plane. Kept it as a souvenier. Lost the plane in combat with another plane of mine. Sacrificial cleaning of the hangar!

Well flew the uproar again today. The added rudder did help, but she still is lacking some. I am going to have to put her aside for now because I have a Funtana 90 arf to complete, 140, katana arf to complete, and a 4 star 60 to install servos and engine. The owners of the planes are getting mad. The uproar is a fun little plane to fly. The mods are well worth the efforts. If I had it to do over I would add an inch to the rudder and take away some of the inside of the Elv so I would have more range. Of course I would have to enlarge the Elv too in some fashion.

OK, I was not drinking today and as far as I know I am not crazy, but this is hard for me to understand. At the field we put new batteries in the radar gun. I took the uproar up and she was showing from 67 to 74 MPH[X(]. I would guess around 55MPH. I took my funtana 40 up which has a 72 saito and was only doing around 54 to 59 MPH. I would guess around 65MPH. I would think that the smaller the plane the more the eye would suggest faster. O well I just thought you may find that interesting.

I am going to move the CG back and add little more elevons.

Hi all

Just thought I would post a photo of my uproar before her first flight. She has the added rudder (not shown). now. I am thinking of getting the 60 size and doing all the mods from the start. Maybe an enya 80. O well, here she is. I think I will call her my twistroar.

Looks good. I haven't been to the field in a couple weeks so I am glad to hear it flies great. Just like my old flight instructor use to say. " its hard to beat a uproar for the money ". Anyway I hope to be at the Three Star Mall Show In Mcminnville Tn, Saturday 16, 2005. I'll try to bring my uproar.
