potassium nitrate KNO3 is SALTPETER
Also saltpeter is used to fertilize palm trees to produce dates (the fruit).
Also, saltpeter is used at a pyrotechnics lab as an oxidizer when making gunpowder and fireworks.

I think they also use saltpeter in the military.Mix it in with powdered eggs and it suppresses sexual desires.
Urban legend???
My friend said it is true.He claims that, in addition to previous statement, that it keeps one more focused.

I bought some of these smoke producing tubes at my local fireworks shop a few 4th of July's ago. You get white smoke for a good 2 or three minutes. I bought them on July 5th, for about a buck each. I thought about trying them on an airplane, putting a PVC tube under the fuse at a small angle to hold the thing, and pointing in down at a 45 degree angle so as not to melt the covering. They get warm to touch, but I don't think they'd melt the PVC tube.

I spoke to my dad about his and he says that he used too make cannons out of saltpeter and sugar when he was a kid! Is this safe on a plane! I don't know exactly what type of sugar it was but would that make a difference?
He said that he used to get saltpeter from a local chemist but I don't know if you can today. I am going to try though!
