Hurry up Fed-Ex....my flip should be arriving in a few hours...i have been waiting since early august....as posted earlier i am still going with the saito 72...if this plane will weight in around 5 to 5-1/2 pounds i should have unlimited power with this motor...although looking at those pics that tipstall shared..man we are talking serious control surface areas.... definetely want to seal all hinge lines, something i do on all planes anyway.....this is going to be one fun airplane to fly...I can't wait to program some wild set-ups with my JR 8103 radio....going with the premium ball bearing 537's..just hope they hold up on that rudder....thanks for the pics tipstall....

You think that the 537 are premium servos ? hmmm... don't know about that. Use something stronger on the rudder if you can or have ! At least a 531, but I would go with a nice 4721 (That is what is going on the rudder of my Flip at least) or Hitec 645MG if Budget is not to high ! I will seal all control surfaces for sure too.
By the way, I am waiting for the FedEx guy today also

meant 531's...that is what i have..i am really considering going ahead and ordering 4 of the ds811 digitals...not too bad of a price for digital, considering the brand name ....i am going to stay with jr because i have already bought some aluminum arms for the jr spline gears...not sure why i said 537's .....i wish they would just quit changing the numbers so often....the main reason for considering the digitals is they would have the holding power near the center...or a very small amount of dead band around neutral.....with the control surfaces as large as they are on this plane...that could be an issue.....i did read a post from someone using standard 3003 servos on this plane...so apparently torque is not that big of an issue...

just got off the phone with my brother....checking on this servo situation....we had both ordered a JR flight pack around the same time, within a couple of weeks ....his came with 517's and a R600 reciever....mine with the new 700 receiver and 531's...the reason i mentioned "premium" is that is how JR describes them...honestly i don't think that a person will see any difference in "standard" flight between the 507, 517, 531's...
would like some response on this? Does anyone think the new JR DS811 digitals would be worth the money on the Flip 3D...or should i just stay with the 531's...maybe just buy one for the rudder....i have to say that i will spend the last penny i have for the best (within reason)....any input....

Stay with the 531's ! They are good servos, and should work fine for this .40 size application. Like mentioned before, just change the rudder servo to something with more Torque. Don't think you need a Digital though. A 4721 or 4131 should work fine.
My Flip will have all 531's, a 4721 on rudder and a 331 on throttle !

Have you started yours already ? Mine is sitting on the bench, and I will probably start assembling it later this week. Looks like it shouldn't take to long. Maybe we can share some tips and experience while putting together. Are you going to use the hardware ? Have not look into that part of the box yet.

i haven't opened the box yet....i do know that i will use carbon fiber rods for all linkages 2-56 size....i am still debating on this servo situation, other than throttle.....i have that brand new flight pack with 517's ..and agree with you that they just might be a little weak..i need to decide on ordering 531's or DS811's not much of a price difference...have never had digitals not sure of all the advantages...thinking about going with a tru-turn spinner also..i just hope to keep the weight around 5 to 5 1/4 pounds using this Saito 72.....

I used the 3121 all around on my Madness with an OS46FX. The final weight with Duralite was 2.2Kgs. I had to add one and half bar of lead in the back for it to balance correctly (I had the rudder servo back as well).
I crashed it when my thumb hit the Rx switch on a vertical take-off.
Seems like the Flip will be at least 2.5Kgs by just weighting the separate parts. I switched to Hitec 525 because I didn't want to re-work the pre-cut holes. I think you guys are going too deep with the servo, I would take fast over powerful if it was me.
I don't know if the moments are the same on the Flip than the Madness but my concern with a 4 stroke will be that more weight will need to be added on the back for nice and easy hover. I don't think that the 5&1/4Lbs is realistic but I might be wrong.
From a first view, the kit is well built but the hardware is extremely heavy (full metal hinges, never seen that before!).
I am building mine completely stock and see where I will end-up.
I was able to hover the Madness at about 1/2 throttle with the 46FX using the fun-fly prop (12.5 x 3.something??), don't know how much the added 250grs will damage the 3D performance yet.
I just finished the wing, got it on the fuse and I have to do all the rest.

Not sure about the hinges yet. Have to inspect them. Maybe I also go with the CA hinges. If the slot is to big for them then just double up. Does anybody else have any experience/used these metal hinges ?

what do you think about the flying wires...not sure if they are needed or not.....i have looked at everything pretty good...and i am considering using the rear servo mounts to work the elevators independently....i know this may mean a little more work and weight, but after looking there is plenty of options for rudder servo placement using a pull pull system.....i used to own a LHS here in town for about 10 years...it just turned into way too much work..and i gave up rc' for about 6 years...just got back into it last year.....but a good friend of mine that i used to give great deals to has a shop now here in town and i talked to him yesterday and he will sell me whatever i want at dealers cost...so i am gonna go with the ds811 servos...for $34 a piece why not....
update me on some of your changes on hardware......
