okay here is the deal. I have flown some fun-fly type planes before and always liked the idea of hovering playing around with 3D. But theres are not really scale looking planes but it never bothered me until i seen this video.

Well now I want an actual Edge 540- 60 or 120 size. I have the bug big time now. I have been looking at different sites and found a few different models of the 540. Some are ARF and some are ARC and some are kit form. I am mostly looking for the ARF version due to no room or time to build. Plus dog always chews up a major part when ever I do build.
In your guys opinions what would be a good ARF that is good in weight and overall quality in 60 to 120 size. I looked at the www.yellowaircraft.com site and the kits look good. But no idea what I am looking at. All websites make them sound good. Also looked at www.creekhobbies.com and they looked good there also.
So what would be a good way to go with his plane and engine combo? I have looked at aeroworks and Carden but I know my wife wont go for those. I wish!
Looking for some good 3D fun.

DAMN!!!!!!! I didn't know a full scale Edge can do all that. That pilot is the man!
Get the H9 Edge if you can for a size 120, the H9 Edge can do all those manuevers, specially the knife edge spin and lamchevak (I don't know if I spelled that right)

I dont own an Edge but YellowAircraft is highly spoken of. If I tank my Cap tomorrow the Saito 1.80 and innards of it will find their way into the 1.20 sized Edge for sure.

I would rather use gas instead of glow. A glow engine that size will for sure suck some liquids down. I think gas would be much more cheaper. Not sure what the pros and cons are for gas to nitro on 120 size.
Does a gas on a 120 size have enough power to pull vertical or nitro? see not to sure which one would be more suitable for this. Looking for a power-plant that will pull the planes weight and then have enough power to gain altitude. Looking for something that will be more than enough power for this type of plane but not ridiculous and over weight. I don't want to have just barely enough to get a hover. Want to make sure I can have total control (or enough power) at all times pulling gaining or descending from vertical.
If that makes any sense. Kind of lost myself there.

ok ok i got it. btw I like the h9 540. Just the right size and pretty. Still dialing it in so not sure on what its capable of doing yet. Im flying a profile right now to learn how to do the moves but will move up to a bigger 540 sooner or later. hope this helps.

I am not sure why the video is not working for you. I could e-mail it to you maybe that would work if my mail allows a file that big.
On your hanger9 540 what engine did you go with? also gas or nitro. I am debating between the H9 or the yellowaircraft one. Both are nice.

Whitch aero works are you guys talking about???? I hear the 60 to 90 is too heavy. Do they have a 25%???

I've got my Yellow 120 size Edge on order. I vote for it.
FlooredCOBRA, In my opinion, for a 120 size or smaller plane, gas engines are too much weight. You will need to use a large 4-stroke glow engine and 30% nitro fuel. I will be putting a YS 140 DZ on my Yellow 120 size Edge. I know that you are trying to save money, but to get the results that it seems you want, you are going to have to spend the money.
You will probably get guys that will tell you otherwise, but you now have my 2 cents worth, and you got it for free!
By the way, I'm near Atlanta also, where do you fly?
Jim

You can also get something like an OS 160FX, they don't require high nitro to perform well, and you may be surprised how a little throttle management will go a long way toward saving fuel. I can fly my Moki 1.8 for 10 mins and burn about 10 ounces of fuel - not too bad.

Hammbone, I live about 15 to 20 min south of atlanta. I have been flying in clayton fliers, i think its called that. It is a new club that just started. It is not very big but very close to where i live.
I got ya on the yellow 120 with nitro engine. I just wanted to ask about the gas since i i really wasn't to sure what could be used. I think I am going to end up getting the Yellow 120 edge also. I like the color scheme better on the 60 size on. Wonder if you can select colors?

I saw Kirby in his Edge 540 at Oshkosh this year. Man, it was AWESOME!! I was in the front row..I took some good pictures while he was doing the "Cobra", but I can't find the prints
. I think it was the best show put on by any of the pilots. Sean Tucker was awesome too. I also really enjoyed the glider aerobatics.
I was in the middle of building my D&L Designs Edge 540 when I went. I got home and worked like mad to finish my Edge. Then school and sports started up, and it is still waiting to be covered...it will be ready next spring though! I've attached one of my senior pictures that was taken with my framed-up Edge. It will be powered by a YS 91FZ.

A friend of mine has an AW 29% Sure its not a huge plane, but it is perfect. nobody could have done a better job building it. and with a 3W 50 its got plenty of power. The perfect 29% sized edge would be if carden made one and put a DA-50 on it

Now this is odd. I was looking at the yellowaircraft edge 540 compared to the Dave Patrick Edge 540T.
The specs are as follows:
Yellow aircraft-
Length:...................... 63.7"
Wing Span:................72.5"
Wing Area:...............942 sq "
Weight:.....................11-12 lbs.
Radio:.....................4 Channel
Engine:.....................1.08-1.5 (2C)
...............................1.2-1.8 (4C)
and the Dave Patricks 540 are-
Specifications:
Wing Span: 78"
Wing Area: 1210 sq in.
Length: 74"
Weight: 13- 14 lbs
Now I was noticing the difference between the length of the fuse compared to the wing span. Note on the YA 540 it is about 9" and the DP 540 4"
Now I thought this was odd. I figured that all should be about the same depending on the size. Those are a pretty big difference. O know the DP is a bit larger but it would seem that there shouldn't be with in some kind of same measurement. As the plane gets a but larger then the specs are larger as well. But not quit like this.
Just thought this was odd. I am thinking that the longer fuse on the DP may be more stable. Not really sure though.
any ideas why the big diff in fuse and wing ?
