So what you going to do now? A yellow one would fit probably but not look great!

I will tell you that I really like this modle. From the very first flight it needed no trim what so ever. Inverted with just a touch ( if any ) down elevator, Knife edge with no rollout and loops that track with exactness!

I did over power it a bit ( HA ) with the YS DZ 170 which means that I need not ever fly with more than 1/2 throttle. Landing speed was hard to get on to because it just kept flying ( not like any other plane that I have had ). I had to learn to make my approach lower on the down leg and farther out, but after spending time and a few flights I got it down pat now!

Only three things I did not like: The control horns ( changed them out for Kato horns )........The way the CG was measured from the wing tip rather than leading edge of the wing at the fues and the darn wing clips. When I went with a larger tank it made it difficult to get to the front wing clips because the tank was longer and wider.

You will really like the way the YAK flies.

I tried to order the next size up with the DA 50 but they are on back order so I will have a long wait.

thanks tailspins, QQ puts out a good prod. unlike some of those other loser arf out there. great quality, and fly great. maybe mine isn't the latest ver. but it will still be good flyer. i don't do 3d (too old and slow) but i still love a good solid and good flyer. QQ rec. a ys1.10fs. for it i have an os 1.20 surpass for it should fly good with comb. regards, fujiman

I just bought the 73" Yak and have a Moki 1.8 that I would like to use but I am not 100% committed to using it. Will this engine work with this aircraft? It's a 30cc engine and with the Pitts muffler the weight will be about 48 ounces. Thanks very much.

Yes it will be pleanty motor. I have a YS 170 and 1/2 throttle is more than enough to make it zoom around the sky.
You will really like the way it flies and make long landing approaches with it because it just wants to keep flying. You can really slow this baby down to a crawl on landing. Took me a while to get used to it. I rate this plane as the best " out of the box" flier that I have ever had.

Anyone with photos of the 73" with the Evolution 26cc? Type of muffler or canister used?

Thank you.

I have a 72, 86 and a 102 Yak. The 72 I had an OS 120sp (supercharged) 2.5 peak hp since I first flew it about 5years ago, I thought it was great. Then I had a problem with the engine last summer and did an E conversion on it. I put an Eflite Power 160, Castle HV-85, Thunderpower 10s 5000 extreme V2 with an APC 20X11prop 3.9 hp 2923 watts...... It is a totally different airplane I like it almost as much as the 86" that has an OS 300 Twin in it. The only reason to go gas is cost per flight a YS 170 or equivalent would cost the same after about 120 flights @$30 per gallon for Powermaster 20/20 if you take care of your batteries the cost should be less than glow. Here is a graph of the power usage for a flight on this setup.

There was a install of a os 1.60 with a tuned pipe (same cc and pipe size as you 26cc evelotion)
on a Extreme flight 74" yak....

There are no provisions for a pipe on this plane, you have to make your own though w/o much difficulty....

You can do a half tunnel with little issue....It's what I did on my 69" Goldberg yak.... very easy to do...

I think that a gas 26 and a tuned pipe is the way to go with this model... Evolution has a Combo pipe/header for around 70$ very reasonable setup for sure....

If you want to save weight you can go for the ES composite Pipe... Oly issue with those is that they are very fragile....
If you are new to this size and type of plane, I would go with the evolution pipe, as it is very quiet and very durable...

I made a light weight fiberglass mold of my pipe and just glued it into a cut-fit of the bottom of the plane....
I reiforced where needed and was very lightweight , and strong....

My header was a little long (not to worry about the header with the evo setup) it is shorter and will fit tighter to the fuse...

yes I can.........

Measure from the wing tip. From the aileron forward the center point is 174MM. The rear max is 168MM and the front Max is 184MM.

Hope this helps you. Mine flies like a dream!

Hello everyone.
I own a QQ 73'' powered by an OS 160 FX for the past two years that flies excellent. Consequently the engine is now reaching its expiry date and demand an overhaul...
I am thinking of repowering the beast with an OS FS 200 pump in the hope to give a new spark to a plane I enjoy SO much rather fixing the old engine. Does anyone have experience with this setup?
Any input on the subject would be of great help...

the 200 pump "about" the same power as os 160, but lots more low end torque. do you think air frame can handle it?????? my instructions say to keep air speed under check, they recommend a 1.10 ys or 1.20 sized 4 stk. if you have gotten away with running a 1.60 for all this time indicates you are good pilot. the 200 should 3D good!!!! brgs and ring, and even a cyl. is cheaper than os 200 pump unless you find a real good deal or used.

Thank you for your quick reply fujiman.
It is the 73'' i own not the 69'' so powerwise I think I should be OK. It is the 69'' that is recommended to be flown with engines at the 110-120 class. I have seen fellow modellers in this thread (73'') using large 4strokes (the manual even presents an 140 YS setup) but not seen one with OS 200. U are correct about the cost of restoration but as I posted before I would like to hear anyone with experience in this setup so I can assess if it its worthwile. It propably is... this bird is such a nice flyer...

I Have the 73" powered by a saito 1.80 and it flies really well. FS 200 would be awesome and it will fit ok. ust a couple of things:

make sure you use a good softmount (better with a nosering)

be very careful to loctite as many screws as possible. this plane vibrates a lot at idle in 4 strokes. when you power up, the vibration is stronger but at a highr frecuency, which is not as harmful as idle vibrations.

enjoy it! FS 200 is a very good engine

I have the 72 and 73 inch yaks and both have YS 140 motors on them. I have never flown or even started the 72 incher. The 73 incher had a YS 170DZ on it orgionally but this was way too much power for the model so I changed it to a 140 and it flies very well. Actually since I got built the 86 incher with a DA 50 and enjoy it so much I probably will never fly the other two. Just got too many planes and need to do something with a few!
The QQ yaks ( the 2 that I have flown) are the best tracking ARFs that I have ever owned and a real pleasure to fly!

I know what you mean about stocking up. My last winters project was the 86 incher. I ordered it and they said they were out of stock to call back in a few weeks. I called the following week and got the same answer so I asked the girl for a "ball Park" stocking date because this was my winter project and if I could not get the model I could buy from my second choice. She then told me that was perhaps the best choice I could make at the time. Three weeks later the story broke about the shut down of the company. Just lucky for me I found an 86 incher on RCU new in box and snatched it up. Only bad thing now is .....no repair parts!

I was wondering if this is the same as the QQ yak?
How many Arf companies are there?
I would like to know who made his arfs, so if any body knows!

Thanks Steiny

Cheers guys!
I have already an OS 200 pump on order + 18X6W APC.
Good practice to have a nib spare cowl just in case. Hope it fits the stock muffler in neatly. It is about time I put it into service.
I will try the hard mount setup to see if it behaves reasonably before I move to softer mounting methods - thanks , I will keep It in mind if it vibrates too much.
From what I have seen so far QQ, EF and HYPERION models share VERY similar construction methods, NOT design. Looks like they share the same manufacturer. They all are made in China after all...
I may be wrong, I speak out of my own observations.
Ure a lucky man to own an 86'' tailspins. I have seen myshelf what this bird can do at the right hands! Sadly, transport issues (it is just a 3dr VW Golf!!) kept it , and the whole 50cc and upper class away from me for the time being.
I will report first impressions when airborne.
Thank you all.

Just checked the link u gave Steiny .
Dont know about the others but the 73'' Yak looks definately identical to the one I have. Everything from woodwork to hardware , wing mounting system etc. everything apart from the tailwheel assy & paintwork...
Checking with the European dealers even the price region is very similar to the one mine had when it was available. Hmmm there's something fishy up' here...
