Please vote if we should separate 3D/IMAC/Pattern!
#1
Ok...we took a vote awhile back and it was split if I recall so that is why I did not do it...always good to recheck and see what you all want...SO
The proposal and vote here is if we should keep our 3D, Aerobatic and Pattern forum combined as it is now or separate into something like:
Main Forum: Aerobatics
Sub-forums
(3D)
(Imac)
(pattern)
All the posting would then be done in the 3D, Imac or pattern sub-forums.
Please vote and add any necessary comments and whatever you guys want is what your gonna get.

I voted yes, but I feel that IMAC and Pattern could be put in the same forum, as trimming/flying technique discussions for precision flight would be beneficial for both groups.

I vote for the split. The stated forum with sub divisions would be fine. A division separating pattern and or precision flying from the 3d posts would be much appreciated.

I would rather have F3A and AA together because it is pretty much the same guys, and the same equipment is used, like engines, airframes, etc.

I think that we should split up "Aerobatics" into the subforums in the earlier posts...which are "3d", "Pattern/IMAC"
I think that IMAC is pattern....the only difference between IMAC/SCAT is the sequences...and the planes. So...I think that Pattern and IMAC should be together.\

Gets my vote, too. Grouping IMAC and Pattern makes a lot of sense. 3D/Free/Artistic is certainly different and should be split apart.

You could split them, but why? If they were split, I would have to click three different sub-forums to get all the data I want. Do you really need to reduce the number of posts in any given sub-forum?
If you really want to re-arrange the sub-forums, I would delete 3D/Aerobatic/Pattern and delete Fun Fly/Profi and create:
*Pattern/F3A/AA/SPA/IMAC
*Sport Aerobatic/3D/Hot Dog/Fun fly
There will still be inevitable over-lap. Where do TOC discussions go?
IMHO

split split split !
The best way would be if you give us 3D flyer's our own forum and completely separated from the others. You either love 3D or you hate it. I love it, so I would like to see our own forum !

Sure, it's easy to surf past the threads that are of no interest to me, but a separate forum devoted to IMAC, pattern, and 3D is very appealing to me.
While IMAC and pattern both fly a prescribed sequence of maneuvers, the other differences are very apparent.
Pattern folks are concerned about weight (11lb. limit), they do not gang servos, most use soft mounts of various designs, and use a wide variety of engines to haul their 2 meter airframes.
I would enjoy entering a discussion on pattern related threads.
IMAC was the way I got started into a "disciplined" style of flying, and I might have some experience of benefit to some to share on that forum.

I vote to split the categories BUT I'd like to see them listed as there own primary category instead of a SUB-category under one listing (Aerobatics say) This was what happened with the engines category and because of this the "Forum Jump" feature found on the bottom and/or top of a thread cannot be used as effeciently as you cannot jump right into the "giant engines" but rather have to click again once the screen loads with the sub-categories (engine disc, giant eng, twin and mutli cyl, rc fuels, tach readings, manufact. support).

so far the overwhelming majority who took the time to vote want the split.
I'm leaning towards the
Pattern
IMAC
3D
if we are in fact going to do this. While everyone won't agree on every way to break it up or if we should at all let's get something that will make the most people happy and the others hopefully happy as well as they get accustomed to it...nobody likes change but this one appears to have some logic to it.
Ideally I can make combo views where you can select to view multiple forums together but when posting you would have to decide which one to put it in.

For some of us on slow band. No chance of DSL or cable or anything fast it would be nice to have it all the same forum as is. I am interested in all pattern AA Imac freestyle 3D TOC. RCU has to many forums already.

Ernies - this is a huge concern of mine...too many forums and overclassification is just as bad as underclassification. I think we have a bit too much but with all the topics it's difficult to cut them back...the elegant solution is the "custom" view.
A preview of what this will be is at this link:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/index.php?...bscribedonly=1
it will show ONLY those forums you are subscribed to on the homepage. Once I finish the forum manager module you can easily subscribe or unsubscribe to any forum on the site. Those selected forums will be the only ones that are searched (unless you specify otherwise), only ones to show on the homepage and only ones on the forumjump! This will cut the list down quite a bit for most making it more manageable.

Marc,
are we still going to be able to browse through all the forums freely, or would we have to subscribe to them in order to jump from one to another ? I have not understood why you would like to limit the forum jumping and searching
