I think Marcs above classifications will work well.
Pattern(maybe include AA here)
Imac
3D
Most members will fit in here somewhere, some will fit into all.

texas3d - you will be able to view ALL the forums if you wish OR only those you choose...the option will be yours.
A checkbox in your preferences will be set where you can tell it to view ONLY your subscribed forums. If you uncheck it you will see and search all of them.
Doing this will make it easier to navigate the site as you can subscribe to only those forums you are interested in. With less forums that you don't care about in your way the site becomes easier to navigate. You can subscribe or unsubscribe to any forum anytime as well.

Marc,
The ability to view only subscribed forums
has been a big help here. We're limited to a 28.8 connection. If someone still wants all of the categories, they can simply subscribe to them. Super easy.
But, if they only want pattern, and don't give a rip about 3d (or the other way around!) set it that way and speed up the load time for the page.
I know you know all this, but if someone hasn't tried subscribing only to what they want to see, they're missing it.

Its the jumping from forum to forum that takes time on slow connections. I can scroll through 30 submissions(and view the ones of interest) a LOT faster than going to 3 forums with 10 submissions each.

Marc I agree that too many splits could ruin it....
from a practical perspective I believe two forums shall suffice
IMAC/Pattern which are competition driven, model specific, rules driven :bananahea
3D/AA/Other forums where musically inclined, tossing and turning free spirits hang out (I guess a lot of pizzazz, UCD3D, Magic..etc threads will end up here :drowning:
Crossover is bound to appear as does in the other areas :rainfro:
Regards,
Patrick

the splits are winning so far...I'll leave this up another week or so and then if no major change split them up...if you don't want them split make sure you vote otherwise the splits have it.

And so it is written and it has been done...
we will be moving the old threads over into the pattern and imac forums as appropriate in short order. There are a lot of posts so we will be moving the most recent ones first. If an existing topic for pattern or IMAC is still in the 3d forum you can still post to it there and eventually we will get to as many as possible to move them over. If you see a pattern or IMAC thread "disappear" just go check their respective forums as it might have been moved over to the new categories.
Please post all new pattern or imac or 3d topics in the correct forum.
thanks and enjoy.

Marc, I was just wondering where AA will go? I really think it should go with pattern as they are basically the same pilots, same engines, radio gear, and nearly the same planes.
Thanks,
Robert.

AA is Artistic Aerobatics. It is something that the pattern organizations are trying to get going. It is flying freestyle routines to music.

Could this be left under pattern for now since many of the maneuvers I would imagine are the same along with the aircraft. I'm always hesitant to overclassifly at any point...if the pattern forum gets way too busy we can look at segregating it further if need be.

I feel it can go under pattern and most posts I've read seem to agree.
You definitely wouldn't want to have a separate category for this as it is pretty new and seems to have very little discussion as of yet.
My 2 cents.
