I just wanted to say kudos to your outstanding flying skills. I wish some of the people at my R/c field who say "Electric doesn't fly" could see this video.

Does any one have one up and flying yet? I couldnt wait for it to come out so I cut one out from what I could guess from the pics and video. Mine came out at 12.5 oz. with gws [email protected] and 11-8 prop W/1020 kokams 2s2p. Its a little under powered, sinks in hover after 5 seconds . I'm going to try more gear and prop and if its not enough I'll go to 3s2p kokams. But I think I came pretty close It flies just like george's( except I cant flylike him). Funny thing is how easy to fly and hover it is.
btw George, people really flip out when they see the flat wing. I just tell them to read the thread
.
Thanks for a great Idea

Dave, do you have some pix of your flat wing aerobat. How did you make the thin wing strong and stiff enough? I'm building an profile Edge 540T from "sturdy board" but it's not light at 6.5 oz for the bare 30" span airframe.

Hi Bob, I'm Working on pics.
I,m using a .07x.250 cabon fiber strip for a spar. It seems very strong. I also use a c/f tube as a stiffener on the fuse, (straight down the thrust line). The foam in the plane weigh's 3.5 oz. It has a 36" span.
Did you soak off the paper backing on the foam board?
You should be trying for 3.5 - 4 oz per sq ft wing loading.
Heres a site with some more info, and there is a link to free plans.

Enjoy !

Dave, thanks for sending me the link to your Edge plan. I had already scaled Tim H's Outrageous Foamy Edge 540 to 36' span and I built it today using 3/8" polystyrene foam edged with 1/16 balsa for both the wing and fuse.
It was much lighter than the sturdy board and the bare airframe weighed just over 3 oz. It launched vertically just like George's Tribute but the wing flexed alarmingly during manouvers. I need to stiffen the structure but haven't been able to find any carbon fibre tube in my locality.

Bob - Fancy meeting you over here... Try some 3M Strapping tape. You will be very surprised at the strength it adds. Add 2 tape "spars" top and bottom. One at about 25% chord, and one at 75% chord. Set the wing down on a table, mark the spar locations, cut the tape about 4" longer than what you need. Then pull the tape tight with both hands, lay the tape on the wing, rub it down well. Then do the other tape spar on the same side (ie 2 on top) The core will bow up a bit from the tension of the tape. Don't worry... Turn over the wing and do the same thing on the bottom. The tension on the bottom spars will pull the wing flat again. This method works great and it adds almost no weight. You will be VERY surprised at how strong the bare foam is now. Here is a pic of the Edge 540T he is talking about.

Actually, I am really impressed with the level of science that went into George's design
