And you never said you cannot run a glow on a Mini-Funtana. Someone at my club just finished one. Here is a video of it. By the way it looks, it's like having "foamy power"

bubba do you know what he has for a setup? i have a funtana that i bought at an action and now i've decided not to spend any more money on electrics but i think i would do the conversion for it.

hey, this is my plane. it's a 25 LA i had already. i had it on before i recovered the plane and it as very heavy. i stripped it and recovered it with microlite and lost about 4 ounces. it seems to fly a lot better now that it is a 26 ounces dry. before it was 30.
i have a 9-6 prop on it and it does not seem to want to stick around long in a hover with it.. so i will try a 9-4 or 10-4.
the saito 30 would be so cool in this thing! if i had the money, i would do it in a second. then it would even SOUND like my funtana 40 with saito 100!
i seem to get around 15 minutes to a 2 ounce tank, so compare that to 15 minutes from an 11 ounce tank on the big one.

tukkus,
Yep, it's whaturi's plane and it's a pretty amazing setup. Tons of thrust. We have a pretty good wind today and the plane and pilot handled it very well. I've tried to fly mine on electric in the same wind and forget it, it's not happening. Power is not the problem, it flexes so much it gets squirrely in a hurry. His is much more stable with the changes he made
I'm hoping he adds more to how exactly he did the throttle setup and such. I was just posting the video because I have seem multiple peopl say it cannot be done but this one works very well.

for throttle, i made a servo tray out of plywood and screwed it to the motor mount. it was like that when the engine was on my trainer, so i just left it.
with all the power this thing has, i would think a hot .15 would still work very well and be even lighter..which is a good thing. the saito would be the sweetest!

Very cool , I'm glad to hear this plane will be fine with the .30 saito , I have one thats brand new ...
I will order the plane and pop this engine on it ...
Can you give me some pic's of how you have your firewall and motor mount setup please ..

i am not home right now to take pics, but i basically just mounted the engine like normal. i did re-do the firewall with nice strong 1\8" ply. i also rebuilt the landing gear supports. the biggest thing with this plane is that it must be kept light. i would highly recommend covering it with the lightest stuff you can (microlite) because even after that, i am on the edge with weight. any more weight and it would not be very good to fly.

no, i think the .30 weighs about the same as the 25 LA with muffler.
i am not sure about the prop because i only have tried the 9-6 and it was terrible for hovering. maybe a 10-4? 9-4?
i used a 2 ounce fuel tank. i fit a 4 ounce one in there, but took it out for weight reasons and also with the 2 ounce, i get 15 minute flights.

Here is a link to a mousse can muffler for your 25 la

Is the only reinforcement you did to the landing gear and firewall? I had two of these electric and those were the weak spots. It also liked to flex in the wings quite a bit. Did you do anything to help that out? Does yours flex alot?

thanks for the link. i did nothing to prevent the wings from flexing, although i would like to. i noticed it to. maybe a thick carbon tube?

This would require recovering the wings but what you could do is get flat CF strips and CA them to the top and bottom spars on the wings. They still will flex a bit but they will take a bunch more of it

Ok thats for the reply , I will have to wait and see what he says ...
What do you think the MAX weight can be for this plane to fly proper ? I'm wondering if my .30 will be too much for it , and will my .30 eat up gas too quick with a 2oz tank ?
just trying to get a few idea's around before I go off buying this plane and mini servo's ..

Having flown two of these, I didn't think the flex problem had anything to do with the wings themselves. I think it was a problem in the fuse and/or wing joiner tube. Mine would handle quite a few blenders, and all of a sudden it would just come apart. This plane did the best blenders of any plane I have flown.
I think for one, the tube joiner was too small, and second the fuse was weak where the wings joined to it. It flew great, but was weak in my opinion.

yeah, the carbon would not really help, since the problem with wing-flex lies in the way the wings are attatched to the plane, not the strength of the wing itself. i think a carbon wing tube would fix it.
im not sure if the saito .30 would suck to much fuel. my guess is that it would be fine. even if it only flew for 8 minutes a tank, that is just to sweet! you gotta do it!
all up weight dry for me is 26 ounces about. i would not exceed this. it is on the edge weight-wise like this.

OK OK !! you pushed me into it LOL , I will do the .30 Siato mod [8D] I'm hoping I can get this done within a week so stay tuned ...
What way would you say I mount this .30 ? sideways ?
Is there diffrent types of Mini Servo's I can get to reduce weight ? or a real light battery pack ?

glad to hear you are doing it! post pics and video.
you must use sub micro servos. no minis. i used gws naros and hitech HS55s.
get a 300 mah nimh pack. mine was from one of those stupid RTF aerobirds or whatever they are called. i had to put it way back in the turtle deck. you will be fighting a noseheavy condition throughout the entire build, so get everything as far back as possible. also, use micro lite, it will save ounces. this plane was not meant for glow, so every angle must be attacked as far as lightening.
