Default 42% Ultimate?

I have always loved the Ultimate from my first CG Ultimate. I now have 33% AW 540T and am having a 39% AW 540T built. But now they had to come out with a couple of Ultimates that are just begging to be owned by me!

I am not a pro @ 3D but I am learning. Has anybody flown the AW Ultimate or the Hanger 9 version?
I have a 3W 150 SS engine, Is this enough to fly them?
Are they as good as the Edge and Extras in the 3D area?

I wonder if the ARF Ultimates will be heavy like some of the ARF
Edges out there?

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Default 42% Ultimate?

Only Chip Hyde and Mike McConville have these planes to date. Betwen the two I'd first say go AeroWorks, due to the Hangar 9 has no air balances on the elevators. This is one of the "coolest" parts of an Ultimate. As for weight and such, who cares! The AeroWorks just won the TOC. It is obviously capable of the best pattern like aerobatics and 3D stuff there is. The Hangar 9 hasn't won much yet. By it's nature a biplane will tumble and spin better than a monoplane. For Harriers small biplanes suffer horrible wing rocking. The bigger birds have less of a problem with that. They both will need MUCHO power. Chip's plane used a new DA-200 four cylinder engine. CHA-CHING$$$$!!! The Hangar 9 is reported to be flying with a DA-150, not quite as much CHA-CHING$$$$!!! Either you choose should be quite a plane. I wonder when they will actually be available for shipping? Probably another CHA-CHING$$$$!!! After that they need in the neighborhood of 15 servos, 2 receivers, and 2 batteries. If you do end up getting one, post a report for us who can only dream.

Default Getting close!

I have just about talked myself into the AW Ultimate. I talked to a long time friend today, that is also a professional model builder and he said the AW Ultimate is about 6 mo. away at best.
I hope that it is not much longer than that. I would like to have it flying for the summer.
I will post if I get one and what it looks like.

Quique Somenzini is also flying the Ultimate from 3W.He just hasn't done so in any competitions. My brother is building that kit right now. It's an all fiberglass fuse with foam sheeted wings. He's using a 3W150 for the motor.Should have a RTF weight at about 38 lbs.

Not exactly what I meant, but OK.

My point was that it is obviously better than most of us can make full use of, no matter what the specs say...

Default Well I am in deep

I have emailed AW with a request for one of these. I have not heard back yet.
I may have to call them because they are really slow on returning emails in the past.

I was wondering if there is a rehab program for sick RC fliers like me!!
I feel like I am waiting for a drug dealer to show up. HE! HE!

What did you request from AW in the email? You can place the order for it right online:

"Betwen the two I'd first say go AeroWorks, due to the Hangar 9 has no air balances on the elevators."

Guys,

The H9 Ultimate production planes will have counterbalances on the elevators. The H9 is also 46% and is much lighter at 40lbs with the DA-150, than the AW w/200 in it. Another point about the planes is the H9 does not use flying wires on the wings making for a much quicker assembly at the field. They should be ready to ship in the spring of 2003.

Default About what I requested on line!

I ask them when it would be ready to ship and if they are taking deposits or do I just send in a big chunk of money and just sit back until who knows when.

I think that kind of info is good to know, don't you?

ebd- you better ask, "March of what year?". My Christmas order (placed first week in Nov, promissed mid Dec.) last year arrived in mid February. When you get it, post every detail. I got a new slogan for AeroWorks. "Turn-key T.O.C.". I wonder what the production weight will be. I really hope it comes in like Chip's. AeroWorks seems to be getting it right.

Well I did it. They have my money and I am on the list for the red one, but really I don,t care about the color.
They told me that March is still a good date. I just want it for late spring so anytime in March or April will be fine.
Hell, just not having to put on 8 square miles of MonoKote will cut my building time in half.

Merry Christmas to me!

There is a Santa. It is just that the Easter Bunny will be bringing this gift!!

Default Robert

I guess about 6 g'S or so. I have the engine and all of the radio gear so really it is only the additional cost of the airframe.
I have a AW33%(not ARF) and I have a AW 540T 39% so it seems that money is not an issue.
But still it is a big chunk of money.
