stubby wings for a 50cc,must have a big wing chord.Claims to have more wing area than the 30% BME Edge with 85" span, maybe it is a 81 " misprint?? Bit of a UcanDo look to it.

Specs

Wing Span: 71 in
Overall Length: 78.7 in
Wing Area: 1488 sq in
Flying Weight: 14.3–16.5 lb
Engine Size: 45–50cc gas
Radio: 7 channels w/9 servos

I purchased a prototype 50CC Seagull ARF ($185!) on Ebay a couple of weeks back and it appears to be in the same family as the new Bling. Has a glass canopy painted black, different colors, and the elevator servos mount in the horizontal stab. instead of the fuse. Otherwise looks and measure identical, must have been a prototype? The wing chord is 22 inches at the root and about 17.25 at the tip, including the aileron. The ailerons are 32 long and chord tapers from 7" to 4.25 for an area of 180"sq each. I'm guessing thats where the need for 2 servos each comes from. Appears to be well built and pretty light. Pictures to follow..... Do a google search for harrier 50CC, and you'll find a video from somewhere.

wing construction looks the same with no sheeting from the leading edge to the spar.
Is there four servo bays in the wings of yours? I would only use 2 good ones anyway to save weight.

True, but if one of the counselors is your wife, more than likely she is going to pour a bucket of water on your plans to buy another airplane.

I think one servo would have it's hands full

the ailerons on my Ultimate are 42"x4" and have one 8611 powering them. No problems at all. The linkage is in the center of the aileron.

I'm thinking of going with the 4 servos, just because the mounting points are already there. They're off center, so you'd have to fab up a whole new mounting spot, hack up the covering etc? Probably use something like Hitec 5625's or if I have a few more $$ the 5925's or 6965's. I've never done multiple servos- Will 1 servo have enough power to overcome the other if it craps out? I was thinking the redundancy wouldn't hurt either if it can do that.

Perhaps all those servos are there primarily to prevent the ailerons from flexing.

I just got my BLING kit and looked first at the ailerons.

They remind me of the ailerons found on the competition fun fly planes (pod and boom)

They're about 3/8" thick, constant thickness and really twisty.

That's probably why the use of 2 servos per aileron.

Pettit

I have had my Bling 3D for a couple of weeks and after my 2nd flight the left wing came apart in flight and I was able to land without any other damage. It was powered by a DA 50 and a 23/8 prop. It was ok not the greatest 3D plane I've flown. So if I were you before I flew I would check all the glue joints in the wings around rib 1 and the wing tubes. I bought mine from Horizon Hobby and it is now back on it's way for a replacement.

What type of servo's does seagull recommend for this plane. Since 4 servo's are needed for the ailerons will Hitec 475's (76oz @6v) work?

Not the greatest? Are you sure everything is tweaked to the max? Like the throws, CG, Thrust angles, etc. It takes me longer than 2 flights to get a plane dialed in.

There is no recommendation as to servo sizes in the manual or on the Horizon web site.

There are, however, "suggested accessory" servos listed, JR 8411's naturally.

I plan to use 2 JR 9411 Digitals per aileron, another pair on the elevators and an 8411 on the rudder.

That should do it.

BTW, I weighed all the parts in the BLING box last night. Everything that will fly weighs 7.6 pounds.

I just completed a Hangar 9 CAP232G with an 80" wingspan, an Evolution 45GX2 engine and 200 square inches LESS wing area.

I plan to use the same engine in the BLING, and it should weigh in the 14 pound range, or 2 pounds less.

Pettit,

I looked at your choice of servo's and the 9411's have 82oz of torque and the 8411,s has 155oz of torque. Are you using one servo for the rudder. I was thinking about using 4 hitec 475's for the ailerons(76oz @6v) that is pretty close to the 82oz of the 9411's. I also have a Hitec 645 that produces 143oz of torque at 6v. I plan on using a Brillelli 366GT(60cc) engine on this bird. I know the manual recommends digital servo's, but are they really needed. I have been using high speed/high torque analog servo's on my gas planes and never had a problem. What do you think?

Your servo choice will probably work but they will be slower than digitals.

The plane is very light and possibly fragile. The 60cc engine may push the envelope a little.

Remember, if you use an engine larger than recommended, no warranty is in effect.

Dick,

Thanks for the feed back. I am not a 3D flyer so I will be doing the normal pattern type stunts with it. I have the Brillelli 366Gt because it fits anywhere a DA-50 will and it cost a $100.00 less. I will be putting a 22x10 prop on this for starts and my change it later if I don't like the way it handels. This plane reminds me of a U-Can-Do and I have flown one of them and really like the way they floated it for a landing. I do not push the envelope to much.

Hitec 475's have a speed rating of .18 at 6v that is very close to the 9411's at 4.8v. The Hitec 645's my be a little slow on the rudder they are rated a 2.0 at 6v so I my go with a faster and higher torque servo for the rudder. Are you using 1 or 2 servo's for the rudder?
