For those that have the DP 90-120 size Ultimate how many hinges did you put on each aileron, rudder, elevator and did you use the supplied CA hinges?
How are these hinges holding up on this plane?

I changed the tail feather hinges out to Sig ones cause they don't have the gap and are a little thicker. I also added 3 more hinges for a total of 6 to the rudder. For the ailerons I used the stock hinges and setup. The engine I'm using is a 160FX. Be sure to check the rudder travel before gluing it in as mine interfered with the fuse sides a bit.

I used the supplied method with no changes. 150 flights later they are still holding strong. Well where until a trainer decided to land on the rudder and the hinges let go taking the fin wood with them. Dave has increased the hinges on the rudder to 4 verse the 3 that were on mine. I will rebuild and change to 4 CA hinges. Install them using the crayon or grease pencil method. Mark the center of the hinge with a crayon and or grease pencil, drill a 3/32 hole in the center of the hinge slot on both surfaces. Use the recommended amount of thin(I repeat) thin CA. The crayon mark prevents the CA from making the center brittle. The hole allows the CA to wick into the hinge better. 3 to 4 drops in each hole and you are done.

The one I'm putting together is about 4 months old.
Elevator - 3 each stock / 3 each sigs now
Rudder - 3 stock / 6 sigs now
Ailerons - 4 each / shoulda put sigs in here too.. oh well!
I really do not trust the stock hinges. Two of them delaminated when I was installing the ailerons. I'd recommend changing them all out to Sig or another high quality CA hinge. I've never used the crayon idea but I did drill the 3/32 hole in the middle of each hinge to allow the CA to penetrate deeper. This plane belongs to a friend. If it was mine I would probably take the time to use dubro pin hinges since they are pretty easy to install and indestructable without adding any resistance. The owner of the plane only does mild aerobatics so I'm confident the CA hinges will hold up. If your looking for massive surface deflection I like the pin hinges.
