tamir_250,

Take a look at the Brillelli engines. I have the 26cc gasser on the CMP Giles 202 140 and it flys the plane great. It does not have the power for 3D but it flys aerobatics just fine. I am swinging an APC 17X6 prop at 8400 rpms. I also have the 40cc on a Somenzini YAK 54 73".

That is old school thinking. The new ZDZ 40 and the SPE 40 (not as powerful as the ZDZ 40) are close enough to the OS 1.60FX to do a good job substituting. The fuel load required for the OS evens out the weight differences.

tamir_250,

The 26cc thru 40cc make plenty of power. It all depends on what you fly and how you like to fly it. I know a lot of guys are flying the OS 160 in these size planes and like glow but not everyone likes glow or flys 3D. It is a fact that gasser or cheaper to buy, the fuel is cheaper, they or more economical and last longer, there is no need for a glow igniter or battery, and the sound is just unmatched. The little 26cc gasser is gaining popularity and has hit our hobby like the plague in the 120 thru 140 size planes so look for more to come.

i think that 40cc gasser engine will do some 3d with this plan, an easy 3d but this is not a 3d machine so i think that kind of gas engines will fit.

hi, i have this plane with a Brison 2.4. weight came up at 12.5lbs. power is what you will call "unlimited" but the plane is too heavy for its size. At first i thought it was light on the scale but when i flew it. she snaps pretty hard. harriers are tough cuz of the weight issue. if you wanna hover. you would have to gently bring it into a position where it will hover or she will snap out.

the brison is a 40cc. it does hover but its really tough getting the plane in a position to hover. pullout is strong with this engine out of a hover.

I dunno what mine weighed with the OS160 setup.. but it harrier'd OK... and would do a wall with only a little wing drop... actually my 3D trainer!!!!

OS160 with the 18 x 6 and 15% fuel... prolly around 9500 RPM's....
I don't think a gasser will compete with this at this weight.... even with 16 ounces fuel verses 8 ounces

Don't get me wrong... I hate slimers, and the day a gas motor with muffs and battery and ignition module is weight competitive... I am all over that....
I love gas!!!!!

I've owned OS 1.60 engines and they are good and powerful. However, at this stage of my life, I just want something to sport fly and have fun with. 3D maneuvers don't mean much to me. I'm old school and I couldn't keep up with the younger set even if I tried as hard as I could and practiced every day. It just wasn't meant to be that way, if you know what I mean?

Just going to the field, enjoying being outside and fellowshipping with other club members is the main event for me. If the model will do all of the old maneuvers that I am familiar with doing, I'm a happy camper.

For my 3D efforts, what little their are, I use the computer sim or small electric models. I'm just now branching off into smaller glow 3D models. I have no desire to splatter over $2,000 worth of components on the ground when I can do the same maneuvers with much less expensive planes, or no airplane at all when using the sim.

When one is young and enthusiastic, it can be difficult to understand the older folks with an attitude similar to mine. BTDT. And it seems like only yesterday.

Sounds like you want a system that just works with out a bunch of BS Maintenance!!!
Gas is hard to beat for that... I bet the 30 to 40 CC gas motor will be the hot ticket then...
If you aren't trying to prop hang this thing all the time, then even at 14 pound it would be OK....

Think About one of these though... guarenteed to fly better then that rather Anvil'esque CMP Katana...

the plane flying very good also at smooth 3d (can't push the engine to the top-worked only 1galon...)
i can tell you guys that this engine in the best one for this bird for sure, HOVER AT 1/3 throttle with no problem...
test pilot: LIOR ZAHAVI www.liorzahavi.com
run with 3% oil mixing,20x8! BOLLY prop at 6,880 rpm --- that's nice for a brand new engine!
next week after borning more and more fuel i'll shot a video and uploud it...
