So I've got a new Twist 60 sitting in the box. I've also got a fairly new .65LA motor laying around. I'm completely new to 3D flying so this is my first crack at it. I've heard many times over how feable the LA series is so I was almost certain the engine wasn't even going to be worth the time. I mounted the engine on my test stand with an APC 13x4W running 10% Omega and pulled 11400rpm with excellent transition. Based on the rpm numbers, that's almost 11.5lbs of thrust! If this guy comes out weighting 7.5lbs, do you think it would make a decent 3D combo?
Thanks,
Dave

Seeing as you stated that you are new to 3D, it will probably power it OK. You may wish to add more power later though with the usual thoughts like "Lack of unlimited vertical".

I agree with you thoughts (If this guy comes out weighting 7.5lbs, do you think it would make a decent 3D combo?) decent being the keyword. The thrust that the .65LA puts out is what i like to have in my .40 size 3d planes. I Think being new to 3d you will be happy with that combo but when i was learning to 3d i had a giant scale planes giles 202 3d plane very nice flyer and when you are learning to fly i can gaurantee that the extra pullout is very nice to have on mine i had a .46 thunder tiger pro and it didnt have suffisiant pullout. You get into trouble quickly and the extra power is sometimes your only chance to get out and stil lhave a plane in 1 piece. Keep that in mind power is the key in keeping yopur plane in 1 peice.
