RE: Official RCU Fliton Inspire 60 build thread!
Ya - my gear started to split on about the 2nd or 3rd flight. I have about 20 flights on it and they are pretty springy now. I had a deadstick and pancaked it pretty hard which broke the gear block in half (between the two gears) but did not damage the plane really. I replaced the block and re-installed the same gear. They still work, but are much more springy now.
BTW: this is my favorite airplane
running an OS.91 2C w/ a perry VP20 osc pump w/ a 15x4 prop. awsome combo

Sounds crazy. I've got a 55AX in mine with a VP30 regulating pump and I think it's perfect. I don't understand how you could get the plane to balance with that engine, or where'd you'd ever need that much power.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one.
My gear started to fail from the very first flight.
What Crap

wrapped a bit of white electrical tape
I like the way the plane flies but it will be my last Fliton.

you could also wrap it with some unwaxed dental floss or some kite string then harden it with some thin CA. I'm thinking about wraping mine with 80lb spyder-wire (spectra fishing line) then ca'ing it (its what i use for pull-pull so its in my drawer).
Cody - the .91 is not too much power at all. It makes the plane hold HA knife edges and hovers very nice. I can pull out of a hover easy. The 15x4 prop limits the forward speed. The .91 weighs about the same as a .61 so the CG wasn't a problem at all. I did put the small battery pack (4Cell) in the tail just in front of the servos to balance it perfectly.

Mine will do that with the 55, and it balances with the 6V 2000mah receiver pack right underneath the canopy, and has enough power for HA KE and very tight KE loops. It climbs out of a hover well, and it's even got enough for comfortable 3D on 10% fuel on a hot, muggy day when the air's so thin.
I like light, balanced airplanes. To each his own, glad you like yours.
And despite the quality problems, I would buy another Fliton. It flies great, and every Fliton airplane has a certain style in covering and design, they've got character.

I almost pulled the trigger on one of these 6 months ago. I decided to wait because of some landing gear issues. Glad I did. You should get better Quality for 240.00. No thanks Fliton.

But if you fly it, and can appreciate it, then you won't be so mad. I don't regret the purchase of mine at all.

RE: Official RCU Fliton Inspire 60 build thread!
Well, today finally (after 10 days) my Fliton Inspire arrived. I am REALLY looking forward flying this plane! My second Fliton. The first one (Infinity) folded it's wing after about 200 flights. But great flights they were!!! I will be flying this plane with Saito FA-82a.
* any recommandations on the propellor? APC 15x4? I should not go above 9250 rpm due to noise issues at our field
* Is anybody flying with the recommended servo setup (3x HS5245 + 1x HS5945)? Any comments on this? I like going with the mini digitals, saves a 100 grams. I will be flying at 4.8V
Thanks all for your inputs

RE: Official RCU Fliton Inspire 60 build thread!
I've got 5475's all around on mine, they work great, even more power than I need. I'm running 6 volts. They fit the mounts without trimming, so I don't know why they'd recommend minis. I've got a 2000mah NiMh battery pack, and even with that and the full-size servos, the plane is beyond light. Use a 6 volt pack if you can, you won't notice the weight, and the 82 will be plenty of power for it. Just fuel proof the firewall, wing roots (both on the wings and fuselage) and anywhere else in the path of slime that's bare.

I'm running a 55AX with a 12.25X3.75, but you'll probably be fine with the 15x4. My dad has a WM Groovy with the 82 with a 14x6 and it's just about right. It might turn a hair over 10,000, though, but it will still be very quiet (imposing a blanket rpm restriction is, I think, the worst way to enforce noise regulations - run a Moki 180 at 9250 RPM with a 18" prop and compare that to a 40FX on a 10x6 at 12,000).

No, the RPM is just an indication, we measure on DbA here. Same rules as in F3A flying. I might actually go a bit higher on RPM and still be OK. I was flying sofar with a 13x8 on a pattern plane, but I think I should move to a 14x6 or 15x4 for this type of plane. This is all on 10% nitro. I read somewhere else someone thought the 15x4 might just be too much for the FA-82.

I think a 13x6 is probably more appropriate for the .82. Props arn't that expensive. Buy both and try them out.

We tried a 13x6 and then went to a 14x6 on the 82 and noticed much better power. The RPM didn't change and verticals were much better, as was 3D. I think a 14x6 or 15x4 is perfect. This was on 10% fuel.

Wow - that's one hell of an engine. I run a 15x4 on my OS .91 2-stroke on the Inspire 60. Seems to be a really good combo.

RE: Official RCU Fliton Inspire 60 build thread!
I am also flying my inspire with a .82 running a 14x4W, we have tried several propes and found this the nmost appropriate. The power is more than enough.
I have had problems trimming the plane though. on a knife edge I am getting pitching toward the canopy, but when I am straight and level and try a rudder only turn (after mixing in opposite aileron) i get the nose pitching down. Any suggestions??

Thanks for your reply Cody, I thought most comments would be made on thrust. Can you explain to me the reasoning behind the CG move? I would like to learn the in's and out's of trimming and this one has me stomped.
Thanks!
Thanks!

As you slow down in KE (or any attitude), the elevator will have less effect, and thus, so will the trim. However, rudder to elevator coupling will have just as much, if not more effect. I'll bet that if you do a really slow, high alpha KE with your Inspire with a lot of rudder movement, it will either not pitch in any direction, or just slightly toward the gear. That's how mine behaved before I moved my CG back a little.
