Default Which Yak 54 ARF to get???

Hi all,

The holidays are fast approaching, and I've been looking into getting myself a Yak 54. I'd like both a small electric and a larger gasser. For electric, I'm thinking about the Extreme Flight Yak 54-E, as this seems about as good as it gets (Any opinions on this?). But as for the gassser ARF, I'm not sure how to go...

Initially I was looking into a QuiQue 73" Yak to fly on a 160FX, but since have decided something around a 50cc gas is better. I've looked at the Aeroworks Yak and the Great Planes Yak. I'm looking to do a mix of pattern and 3D flying with it, so light all-up-weight and wing-loading is a must.

Any suggestions?? I'm open to any manufacturer, these are just the ones I've looked at so far.

Thanks,

RJ

Take a look at the new Ultra-rc 50cc Yak. Looks like a spittin' image of the infamous EF Yak. They are claiming sub-16 pound weights with the DA. Quality-wise, the Aeroworks Yak wins, hands down. Unfortunately, they seem to come in on the heavy side. Being that you are at sealevel, though, it wouldn't be much of an issue.
The GP will definitely be the cheapest and easiest to come by, but it is small and heavy for its size, IN MY OPINION (had to throw that in)

Thanks everyone, all interesting ideas. I'll have to take a look at the Ultra-RC Yak. I did just today notice the Quique's new 86" Yak, a good looking plane! As far as electrics go, I'm up to my neck in foamies of all sorts; what I'm more looking for is a built-up Yak.

Looking forward to eeing the new EF 50cc Yak...

Too many choices here!!

Get the Aviation Models or whatever their called now. They build a very good quality 30% Yak 54.

Yes, the more I look at the specs on the Ultra RC 87" Yak, the more I like it. Does anyone out there have experience with this plane? Any particular good or bad points??

either the URC or the QQ yak have typos, no way a plane could have over 1000 squares more, just not possible, unless one counts fuz and tail area too.

New EF stuff is going to be awesome, nothing like we've seen before!

I think the 1000 sq in WAS the typo... he meant 100 sq in more...

UR JUST got them in and got them on their website... so it will be a little while before people get started building them.

I have two of the URC (EF) 87" Yaks waiting for me in KY... will be going down in the next day or two to check 'em over and maybe get some pics.

It is nearly identical to the EF design... with the only thing I see different is pinned hinges instead of hingepoints. It also comes with only Wingbags and not fuse/stab bags.

It SHOULD build out to 15.5-16 lbs (my EF was 15.5 with DA50 and stock muffler)

The wingarea may actually be about the same as the QQ 86" Yak as the 87" is somewhat of a misnomer (unless they made it larger for this release. It ended up being 85.5" or so and wing area of about 1400 sq. in. (the wing recesses in the fuse a little and I think this lost their original wingspan)

Basically one could check out the EF 87" Yak thread and determine how this one is built... as long as the factory maintained the quality and everything is straight and true.

EF is indeed announcing something in the next week to 10 days or so... and his stuff just plain rocks.

The EF planes are going to be worth waiting for I think. I saw a couple of pics the other day, they are really nice and a good bit larger than the rest of the 50CC stuff that I have seen and still right around 16 pounds..
