Default Which transmitter is best?

Maybe Mixmaster or someone could help me decide on whether to upgrade from the Futaba 8UAP (my only computer radio for the past 8 years) to the Futaba 9channel or JR 9303?. The problem is most folks use only JR or only Futaba and almost no one has experience with both.

The main reason I want to upgrade is to get a multipoint throttle curve and have more flexibility on programming & switch assignment.

Maybe I should just stick to my 8UAP until I'm financially ready to upgrade to the 12Z or like???

What do you want to know, they are both great radios.

I use the 9C in 2 war birds, 4 helicopters, a Funtana and a full house glider and have yet to find something I need that it wont do.

This topic is going to spark up a very long pointless battle. Pick a radio that you are comfortable with, go to your LHS and hold each one. Also choose a radio that has more local support at your hobbyshop and or flying field. I have the 9C super and love it to death.

since you have futaba, stick with futaba. I have a JR 9303 and do like it, but have heard nothing but good about the 9Z. If I didn't already have a ton of JR stuff, I would probably switch to Futaba, simply because I like how it feels and because it has stick-mode select (I fly mode 4 and have to send in every JR radio that I buy to have it switched), and some of the higher-end radios have externally adjustible gimble tensions and adjustible gimble rotation to suit a pilot's ergonomics better.

Jeff:

I flew Fatuba for many years, around 20. Bought the 9 channel after it came out for a fun fly project that needed crow and losts of other programming. The manual had some directions specific to what I wanted. After about 8 days of learning the new programs and trying to to set up the airplane, I finally got upset at the thing and emailed the rcu help site. Was advised the manual was in error and the following detail would do the job. Another week went buy, no crow operatilng. Emailed again, response, yes, directions incorrect, the head programmer will be in contact with me soon. Head programmer did contact me with new directions. More programming, more no work, more directions and corrections. Will give them that they tried, never worked. Buddy is a JR guy and just lalughed his head off, saying "typical". Finally got fed up, sold the 9 at a big loss and bought the JR 10X. Received the radio in the afternoon and had things up and running correctly in about a hour. Most of the time changing out the servos and receiver, had crow the first try from a logical progressive manual, something Fatuba is famous for not having. Granted, I am not a good computer person, most all go blank and screwy when I walk by sort of thing. Have been flying JR for about 4 years now, and never a glitch or problem. Yes, the $1200. 10X is their top of the line, very well worth the extra money in quiality in my view. You must plunk out $2400. with Fatuba to get a equal system, I honestly doubt that its better except you can tune in to your local radio station while flying and then have the guys yell at you to turn it down or get a radio with ear plugs. Fatuba 9 or JR 9 channel does not perform or program nearly as well as the 10X. Recommend it to you without reservation. Bottom line, its sort of a Ford Chevy sort of thing, I suggest a Cad. Good flying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks rmenke.

BTW: the 'crow' or speed brake is something I have a problem with on the 8UAP. I set it up fine - the problem is it only allows the B switch assignment for crow. This is my duel-rates switch for all other aircraft.

Other issues I have with the 8UAP is flaps... I can't set the dial for 0 flaps all the way to the left. It must be straight up. This makes it hard to know when you are at 0 during flight without looking at it. Also, I cannot mix elevator with flaps, i.e. when i dial in 20% flap - I want 5% elevator. It only allows you to mix flaps with elevator, i.e. when you give up elevator it mixes in flaps. This is for tight loops and not for mixing pitch coupling out with flaps down.

Question regarding JR.. Can I still use my Futaba PCM receivers with a JR transmitter?

PCM is proprietary so you would need to stay within manufacturer to use PCM. Also even if you had ppm recievers jr and futaba use a different shift scheme so even they arent compatible.

Boy - that explains why folks are either in the JR or Futaba camp and not both...

I like the comments about being able to tune local radio station with the futaba's. I guess when you can think of nothing to say, you might as well say something stupid instead.

Feature wise, the 12z blows the 10x out of the water. 12z cost is pretty close to the same price. Not the 2400 listed above. More BS

In the end, use what you want and like it, just don't listen to all the bs on the forums.
