Mr. Cline recommends letting the regulator hang, vibration could adversely affect it. That said, on a UCD, its a challenge to let it hang and keep the fuel line from the regulator to the carb short <and> keep the regulator at carb level. There isnt a lot of room behind the carb to the firewall, and no room beside the carb to the cowl. I dont have pics, and honestly I'm too lazy to pull the cowl to take them... I'll describe what I did, it works.
I used the GP super fueler- when it sticks I'll replace it with a fuel dot - and the stock fuel tank in a 2 line config. From the tank, run the fuel supply line to the fueler (or a dot). From there, to the "in" side of the regulator. On the "out" side of the regulator, I ran a 2 inch line to the carb, and let the regulator hang directly below the carb, wrapped in thin foam to prevent any damage from rubbing against the crankcase or intake pipe. On the vent side, I ran a short line from the muffler tap to the one way valve, and let the one way sit outside the cowl. Then a 2 inch line into the cowl to the "T" fitting. One side of the "T" goes to the tank vent, and a 3" line from the "T" straight down to exit out the bottom of the cowl - this line gets plugged and is unplugged only for refuel, and to relieve pressure.
The only drawback to this setup is the initial run of the day, the carb has to be primed as the regulator sits too low - I do this by unscrewing the needle valve and pumping a few drops through the needle valve fitting - after the initial run, I dont have any problems whatsoever, and the engine flips right over with no priming required.

When I ordered my cline, I spoke to him and he said when you get the tank full, plug the outlet and crank in a few more turns of fuel. This will expand the tank a little and pre-pressurize the fuel system so that it will be ready to go. I haven't gotten mine to try this yet. It will only work with a fuel dot or other similar valving fuel input.

Thats what the instructions say, and plugging the muffler while flipping does a great job of pressurizing the tank... but with this particular combo, if the regulator isnt at carb level, I've found you cant get enough draw initially to wet down the engine hand flipping (probably because I have to clear out all the after run oil as well...). I've found the Saito 100 likes to be pretty wet for hand starting, and its quite difficult to flood it to the point it wont fire - even inverted. I've never tried to start it with an electric starter, this might eliminate the need to prime. After lots of variations, this ended up being the best set up for me, I just couldnt find a way to set the regulator at carb level without it banging on something, or exceeding 2.5 inches of fuel line.
edit: You wouldnt have to pull the needle valve to prime it if the engine wasnt cowled, just put a few drops down the carb in that case.....

Hey rat....... Next time you have your cowl off can you post a pic of your setup? I was looking at mine today and there is hardley no room between the engine and the firewall. I'd need to mount the cline vertical and probably use at least 1.5 inches of tubing off of the carb to loop back upward toward the tank.
I'd like to see eveyones setup if they can get pictures.

... I ran a 2 inch line from the carb to the "out" line on the regulator, and the regulator hangs below the motor mount, and below the carb, there just aint enough room to mount it between the carb and the firewall....
