I have not. I can tell you the OS 120AX is more than enough power for that plane.
The 160FX would be ballistic.

Hi all!

I am thinking of pulling the trigger on the Peak Extra 330L (68"), and putting a Saito 1.20 (not the 1.25!!!) 4-banger in there on 10% nitro. The engine weighs 960g with muffler (34.3oz), and as I am looking for 3D performance I am going to build it as light as I possibly can.

1. What do you think the all up weight could be with that engine?
2. What do you think the pull-out of hover would be?
3. Is it enough with 1 5625 on 6V on both elev?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Guys,

Last week I tested the Extra.I really like my birdy. The new Moki 1.80 gasser turning 19x8,20x8 Metts props has plenty of power thus hovering this plane as easy as doing it with a foamie.Dispite of the fact that this engine is not as light as a 1.20 glow engine, the plane has no cg problem at all.We put the ignition accu in the tail plus 60gr lead. Thats it.Well, its a great flyer, easy to fly, running on cheap fuel has plenty of power so its perfect for this money,[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

You should be under 9 1/4 lbs
should be plenty of power to pull out of a hover.
5625's would be great.

hi, my saito 125 on 20% struggles to hpld an hover in seagil yak, i think auw will be about the same, need more power and less weight, i dont think you could lighten this airframe any. so more power is the way to go, servos should be 9/10kg pull i think

Ok thanks. What is the weight of your Yak? Using 5 or 6 servos?

This is for anyone that has purchased from Peak Model. I got an Extra 330 COMPOSITE w/DL50 combo. Added a review on their web site about it. Some good comment's and some not. But as I went back to their web site too see if any replie's had been posted I found none and they removed my LOGIN and didnot post my review. My COMPOSITE plane has taken alot of building knowledge to make it right as I stated in my review. So beware when you think it's a good deal.
As I've found their building manual was very vague, hole's in control horn's are larger than supplied clevis's causing flutter. Had to re-drill proper sized hole's. Manual stated fuel dot goes on the side of fues and we all know better that it goes on top. Had to mount fuel tank on wing tube and mount batteries on stand-offs to get proper C.G..
Also had to reduce prop to a 20-8 to get ground clearance or make stilt's for the 22-8. Also had to purchase new wheel's and tailwheel, Very poor quality.

Other than that DL50 what an engine.

Will get a MADIEN flight this weekend, Maybe

20x8 is *too* small for a DL50, you want at least a 22x8 and preferably a 23x8.

Can you put bigger wheels on it or increase the UC height in some way?

20-8 will work fine. All that is needed is to play with travel adjust to keep rpm's at 7100-7200 at full throttle.

My tail section came off the plane right at the front of the rudder. There is a butt glue joint at that spot but there is no plywood that goes to the end of the fuse. The only wood that is one piece all the way to the end of the airplane is the turtle deck balsa sheeting and the four balsa sticks on the bottom. The whole tail blew off with the servos in it. Then the difference in pressure blew the canopy off. Went down in some muddy weeds. Had to pull my engine out of the mud by the header pipe. I will not be replacing it. I will buy a model with a complete firewall. This firewall design looks like an electric application and the ply is too thin. My opinion is it was not designed for the stress and vibration of a glow engine.

well i have a os 160 in my extra and wow its has been fantastic and no firewall issues i did add some tri stock just in case, the biggest problem i had with this plane is the landing gear block area,i had to completly add to this spot as the first landing that was not hard ripped them right out

As far as firewalls ARF-mfg (who make the Extra) have improved their firewalls on their new models by boxing them unlike the Extra 260 which was an older design which still works well with glow motors but is a weak point if mounting gas engines.

I recently purchased their new 25% YAK54 and it has a boxed firewall and a nice airfoil shaped tail with a stab tube as well! This one will be getting the OS120AX out of the Extra260 which has gone to airplane heaven

Royster, what Yak did you get? Did you get the new 71 inch that I see on their website? I am considering that one for the OS 120.

So far i have thrashed my extra with a peak 26,very agressive flying and i have only damaged it from a dead stick landing (my fault ).i have added bracing and some epoxy from day one to make sure it was a bit tougher. So after about a few hundred flights i through the spe43 in it (nearly the same weight). Will get to fly again in a few weeks and hope to thrash it for another 100 flights.By the way i have a wild hare yak with a dl50 in it and the extra is still fun to fly!
