Well i finially got to fly the 300sx that i modifed. You may remember the thread i had a while back on the plane when i was building it. Well............
GP 300sx .40
Satio 72 with 14 x 4 Zinger prop
3004 survo's all but the hs-85 throttle.
5 cell 1000 mah pack.
5 lbs 3 oz
first flight.
I took it easy on the first tank. Got it trimed and did a couple of loops and rolls. Took a few to get the throws right.
Seconnd tank was a diffrennt story. IMAC flying was a little slopy. It needed some more down thrust and the cg was to far forward. The plane is real smooth and locks on pretty good. Snap's start a little slow but then it gets going pretty good.
The rest of the day was 3D
Yes it will waterfall nicely. Not the tightest but better than i thought it would.
Blenders are saweeeeeeeeeeeeeettt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tip spin's are a blur.
Harriers, the wing rocks harder than pantera on tour. But i kinda figured it would set up the way it is.
I did do a couple of wall's. Wow really clean and fast ! A little tricky but i think i got it down.
Just want to say thanks to all the people that chimed in on the old thread. You know who you are.

You flew it! Congrats! I have moved on to larger planes but I'm hanging on to my GP Extra for a while; it is just so much fun to fly. Good Work!

I did have a os 50 in it. I got a satio 72 and tested it on the omp 540. Wow what a motor. So i droped it in the 300.
I did a little tweaking. A little down thrust and move the cg back with a 13x6 prop. Man it woke up ! Still need to move the cg back some more. I need down when inverted. BUT..........
The first waterfall is pretty tight but a little bigger than the 540. If i leave it in a waterfall the plane will pivot around the wing on untill you tell it to stop. I did 4 in a row and only lost about 5 feet!
The blenders are almost dead flat now too.
It got a little easyer to hover, but i still cant hold it for too long. I did get a nice T/R out of it. or two.
The IMAC stuff cleaned up real good too. Up lines are clean now annd the knife edge is sweet. I got it to pull up on KE but to scared to try a loop.
Harriers still suck !!!!!!!!!!
I hope i can get it to clear up. Hope fully i will be able to get some video this week end.

What kind of control throws are you using? The only way I got a sorta waterfall is when I use a 14 x 4 on it --> this gives lots of thrust but slow flight.
Anyway, I think you've got something really good. Nice covering ! Makes it LOOK like it's light.

My control throws really won't help you. I have bigger surface's on the tail. The first flights were with the 14x4. I tried a 13x6 and like it a lot better on this plane.
I just put a Perry pump on it. Tried it out on the ground when i got home tonight. Man, I got the motor running sweet now!! This is my first 4 stroke and was having a little problem getting the motor to run right.
here's a pic of high rate.

I knew you have larger control surfaces and also know that my plane is not as capable as yours. I was only wondering why you were having some difficulty doing waterfalls. I now know for sure that you have enough control authority for doing it. My only guess is, as you mentioned, the center of gravity location. My opinion about CG on this design (stock design) is you should put it as far back as possible without destroying too much the landing qualities.
What I understand here is your CG seems too far forward since my 300s torque rolls easily and blenders very very well (to me, as well as can be).
When will we see in flight videos ?

3D joy.....Just wondering? Where is your cg? The last time i flew mine it was at 4.25. I just moved it back to 4 3/8. With any luck that will be it.
Hopefully, This weekend it will be nice enough to fly and i can get a hold of the guy with the vid cam. One problem, I dont know how to post a video. He says the cam will down load to the computer but will have to find out how.
If the cg is right then at least i should be able to have some pics of low hovers. hehe

I just checked my CG and found it was a hair farther back than 4 1/2". This measured from leading edge of wing, right on fuselage sides. With the CG this far back, (the manual recommends 4" as a starting point) stalls are really sharp and come without much warning.
I can't harrier with it since the wings rock too much.
On the other hand, torque rolls are really good if you are able to slow rotations enough so it remains controllable. I have found it really difficult to bring it low because I am not able to loose altitude while torque rolling. With those stock control surfaces, I need all the wind that's coming from the prop all the time.
I have not tried walls but will as soon as summer comes back here.
Blenders are incredible and inverted flat spins are perfect.
The only recommendation I can give you is set your CG slowly since with my CG location, even on low rates, I can snap roll, spin, flat spin and even blender my plane, and thats with the non modified plane
If my memory serves me well, I think you have changed your wing ribs and spars for lighter material. Is the airfoil changed?
Bring those vids soon !!!

I went flying today. Man i like this plane. I have the cg back at 4 3/8. And i plan on leaving it there. It will harrier but its hard to find the sweet spot. Once it there it will harrier very solid! I need a little more right thrust but is pretty good right now. I can hold it in a hover but still a little chicken to try real low. Water falls and walls are very clean, just have to find the right speed. It will pull up on knife edge too! Had to put about 5% up elevator mix in it.
Couldnt get a hold of the guy with the camera today. SORRY!!

No i didnt change the airfoil. Sorry, just noticed that. I should have fatten it up a little but oh well. Still may make a nnew wing with the bigger ailrons and a little fatter airfiol.
Will have to wait and see.
