Hello,
I recently purchased the WM Extra 300S for 3D work (in purple/green color combo). Here are my findings:
Hits:
1. Quality of construction is impeccable, excellent fit and finish.
2. The covering is tastefully done and required very little touch up.
3. Landing gear, tires, wheel pants, fairings/cuffs were all included and very scale in appearance, not to mention very lightweight, but strong.
4. Cowling fit the engine perfectly with no need to hack up the beautiful finish.
Misses:
1. Instructions were a little vauge on some points, but not enough to cause confusion or mistakes.
2. Hardware was ok, but opted for aftermarket HD pieces for 3D work.
Summary:
The airplane went together very well(I had not built an airplane model in about 20 years). I use the OS BGX-1 3500 with the radial mount and Brison Pitts Style Muffler..a perfect fit. The spinner hub is .125" forward of the cowling. I also installed a Futaba 9CA with Expert 64oz servos on all control surfaces and a Futaba 3004 on the throttle. Dual elevator, aileron servos with a pull-pull rudder. 1400MA 6v receiver batt. All Hangar 9 titanium hardware.
The airplane needed NO ballast weight and balanced perfectly at 6.125" (between the 6.50" factory and 5.75" recommended balance points) and weighs 14lbs 8 oz.
Flight:
First flight required very little trim input, and to settle any disputes about the BGX-1, the airplane will go vertical until you loose sight of it! I am using a 20-8 prop and spinning it 7300 RPM at Sea Level with 5% fuel.
There were no ill flying qualities, it lands like a trainer and will crawl and tumble through the sky with the best of them. In a nutshell, its one of the best flying models I have ever owned.
