Hi,
I am going to get one of peakmodel 25% models. I have a Moki 180 gasser that I will use, it is a guite heavy engine (around 2 Kg, with silencer and prop( a little over 4lb)). My favorites are their Edge 540T, Su-26M, Extra 330L and the Yak-54. I am afraid that I might need lead in the tail. If any of them has a tendency to be nose heavy I guess that will not be the one to select.
1) I would like to know which one has the shortest nose or if it would be easy to shorten it (does not looke like it is taht easy from the pics on their website) The Moki is 6,25"/15,3cm from the propbackplate to the mount.
2) Also what is the cowl diameter/width on these models, can they contain my engine? (5,5"/14cm from centerline to the top of the sparkplug)
The Edge seems a little lighter and has a greater wingarea, but does it really matter for a novice in 3D???

Hi Dadaz,
I am sorry to disagree!!! (I take it as you don't know the Moki engine)
The weight of 2 kg is for the complete powerpack: engine, muffler ,mount, prop (nylon), ignition and ignitionbattery. It is rated to 4,0 Hp @ 11000rpm
Compare to the DA-50-R: 1,4 kg for engine only and stand offs (rated to 5Hp @ ??rpm)
What is the all up weight for a SPE26 with all of above mentioned stuff???[>:]
What I liked to know was simple which of the Peakmodels that had the shortest nose and if my engine could be contained be the cowl?

Hi Chap,
This engine is not so heavy at all.
http://www.airworld.online.de/Englisch/Index.htm
My Mokis weighing 1290 according the chart at Airworld.de.
I wouldn"t change it for a Chinese crap.

Well since the engine goes inverted I think any of them would work
the yak as a rule is aliitle more forgiving then some of the others JMO
the spe 26 AUW with muff ing. batt and prop should be about 1.3k and makes a claimed 5.5kg of thrust which is hardly 3d power for a 10lb plane
good luck

I am not sure whats going on here, people are very uneducated..
The Moki 180 weighs about the same ready to fly and puts out similar power as a good 40cc gasoline engine.I think this is an indisputable fact.
The Moki will easily fly all the planes mentioned.I cannot help with the CG question. It should however be easily resolved by shifting components about.A 25% is a proven Moki 180 combination.

Hi,
That is just my opinion too!!
Gerogee: Will your engine stick out of the cowl?? and what kind of silencer do you use??
I have a Krumsheid 2 chamber and it is pretty effective.

Hi,
I"m gonna build my engine upside down as ever, there"s no point to build it onthe side, being not a glow engine,so it won"t stick out of the cowl.I"m using custom made muffler for this engine.
Moki gasser 4ever.

Hi Georgee,
Please confirm that I can have the hole cylinder inside the cowl if I install it inverted!.
Also can you please measure how wide the cowl is, so I can see if I can have my silencer there as well?
I plan to order a model from Peakmodel this weekend, I prefer the Edge because of its wingarea, but if I will not be able to install the cowl due to engine size I will pick one of the radial ones (Su-26 or Yak-54)
Best regards

Hi Chap,
I don"t think that the whole cylinder will be inside the cowl if you install it inverted. It"s not a problem at all because the engine needs proper cooling and since it inverted you won"t ruin the esthetic of the plane as you would if you"d install the engine on the side.
Measuring the cowl at the back:
Length:200mm
Width: 205mm
Height: 190mm

Georgee

I've looked at moki's before
can you post your prop rpm readings I'm most intrested in the 20x8 and 22x6 for 3d
I have a 10lb plane I'd like to 3d with gas and if this engine really puts out as much power as a 40-45 cc gas and weighes a pound less I might concider it
as long as it doesn't make all it's power at 11000 rpm making it worthless for 3d
thanks

Georgee:
I have ordered the Extra from www.lindinger.at. They still had the yellow, which I personally like very much. It should be shipped on monday. Can't wait!
Skiman762:
I think the prop sizes you mention is too big for the Moki/Mark. I have used a 18x8 so far and it can pull a CMPro Giles 202 140 @ 6,3 kg vertical with great autority (sorry, no prop rpm so far)

Georgee:
I hope I et the yellow one! Otherwise I would have bought the Edge. On the order confirmation mail they sent me, it says it is yellow.
Tony:
I live i Hjorring, in the northern part of jutland, close the the westcoast.
I am planning, just as Georgee, to install it inverted. But let us see, I have a rather large silencer (but effective), so maybe I will install it with that in the bottom instead???

Yes,I got the same Art.Nr. 66572,and they"ve sent the blue-red version, but the thruth is that this color is more visible in the air as the yellow one.I saw the yellow version at the Modell exhibition in Vienna in October and in my opinioin the blu version is more attractive.

All the Mokis that I am aware of are running on glowfuel, but only require 0-5% nitro.
A Moki 1.8 will not struggle with a 10 pound plane for 3D at all,it would be extreme power.
Please clarify that the engine in this thread is not a gasoline conversion of some type, and is indeed a glow engine as most would expect.

The 1.8 can be had in glow or gas from the factory it is not a homemade conversion
Here it is under the mark name plate

OK,then I should perhaps take back back any comments on having excessive power for a 25% if its on gasoline.I dont have any figures, but I would imagine the nitro motor has alot more power over the gasoline version??
The 1.8 is aprox 30cc? and that is probably just enough for a 10-11 pound airframe. These are general guesses and I have heard little about the Moki on gas.
The glow version is popular and reliable and powers very well.
