The hole under the fuselage i shall be covering with white covering just so no oil enters the plane from underneath.
The pictures below are of the firewall, it was hard to get good pictures due to engine already mounted but i will try and explain how i set it up.
In the first picture the original firewall is still there i only cut the electric motor box off flush, the engine mount beams are sitting on a new firewall i added.
Once you cut off electric motor box, you can hold a square bit of ply up to the original firewall and trace around the fuselage to get the same shape. before i glued the firewall to the other original firewall i first created a doubler which you will see in the second picture. there is a slight hole in the original firewall which i filled with a cutout bit of ply, the one with the barcode still on it. but even with that sitting flush inside there is still the gap from where the electric motor mount was as it is hollow. i shall try and draw a picture in MS paint, obviously it will not be all that shabby lol. If you dont fill this gap there will be a square the size of the electric mount hollow between the two firewalls and doubler, creating a firewall that may warp.
HOPE THESE PICS HELP :P

here is a picture of the outline of doubler, you will also have to cut two small notches on the top corners to fit in beside cowl screw ply locations.

By the way, does anyone know about the anti-vibration rods on the elevator set-up. its the only thing left for me to do and its confusing, because in the manual it says its only on one side??? why only one side?
Oh and with all these posts ive been giving, sorry if i sorta hi-jacked the thread...

Thanks a LOT for these posts , I'm just waiting for you to toss that bird in the air !!
As far as the rod's I woulnt worry about it really , book said 2 per side but I went and bought some extra carbon fiber rods and did both sides .
Dav002 did you balance your plane yet ?

i have yet to balance the plane properly, i sorta sat the battery in and tried at one stage and it turned out nose heavy (go figure
) thats with the reciever mounted at the pull pull rudder mount and the battery put at rear of canopy. so i shall add some mag wheel weights to the tail before flying. 5-10 grams should sort it out. hopefully...
And about the rods, they seemed a little flimsy anyhow as they bend really easily and i dont see how the supplied ones would work. also about 2 on each side, i was only supplied with 2 rods anyhow not 4, so looks like i won't worry about them anyhow, my mini edge has no ill effects without them so this shouldnt be all that bad.
Also about "tossing the bird in the air" i hope it flies good, because the video e-flite supply on their site is somewhat un-impressive.

I finally got my plane built today !! it took me forever to get the 12 inch servo extentions to the real , I see the blocked off the inner tail section with clean monocoat , they left just a small slot for the servo connector to pass through ! but it's done I just need to banalce .
Once I get word the .30 4 stoke fly's good I will tear it down and do the engine mod .

The servo extensions i got through quite easily as i first got a piece of string with a heavy washer attached, which dangled down and easily slotted through the hole, not sure why they blocked off the back half of the fuselage, ohh well i tied the extensions to the string and then pulled it through.
i got a chance to run the engine yesterday, it is quite a powerful motor for its size. im only running a paint stirrer prop (master airscrew). 10X6 at the moment on 15% fuel.
It got a fair bit of power but honestly i feel its going to not have the power for a rocket pullout of a hover, but i cant really tell untill i actually fly it. maybe i need an 11X4 prop, but at the moment im guessing 3/4 throttle for hover or just a little over. But as i said, im not building mine as an all out 3d plane like most people would want.

Sounds like it will be a lot of fun with your set up. Good looking plane too btw. I think it will still be a blast even if it hovers at above 3/4 throttle. I had a profile that was about the same and it was a a ball to fly.
I still cant help but wonder about the post to where the ones plane hovers just over idle! That is something else right there. I am willing to bet money that carb hits full throttle at just under half throttle and the rest is pushrod bind
.

i was looking at doing something like this a while ago, as i've been given a Enya .30 ss

i will be interested in how the .30 four strokes go, not sure if mine being a two stroke might be too much

V8Mini, your engine would be a closer match in something like the 49" QQ yak 54, as there is currently someone building one with an os 32sx in the QQ aircraft support thread.

I got a chance to weigh my plane today, using kitchen scales not sure how accurate to the gram they are but with a saito 30 it worked out to be a fair bit heavier than i anticipated, the specs on the box by e-flite say 820grams with battery now with my calculations i didnt think i'd come in 500grams heavier at 1.3kg, as i said my scales may not be correct, i am using hitec 65hbs, stock hardware otherwise. and for some reason it came out 500grams heavier, how???!!!!!! the engine mounts and new firewall would be 100 grams max. so in theory this plane should only weigh 1kg. wonder where the extra 300 grams came from unless my scales are wrong... because if this plane is really 1.3kg then it will be a 1:1 ratio only if this motor pulls 1.3kg thrust like ive read...
I guess the test will be in the maiden flight, i will hopefully be going out to the field tommorrow depending upon the weather. All last week whilst i was working it was fine with no wind, now its going to be thunderstorms and gale force winds, hopefully the unpredictable weather forecasters are wrong like they usually are, so hopefully a flight report should be tommorrow night., Weather depending of course...

Don't know how his came out but, I built a mini funtana. Put an OS 30 on it and really enjoy flying it. I don't have 3D skills, but think this is a really fun combination. It is great for pattern practice and all around sport flying. I fly from a well maintained grass field an have no issues with takeoffs or landings. No noseover issues. Draws a lot of interest.
I may do the showtime next. Too much fun.
