Default My Rendition of the Flip 3-D

I mean no offense to those who assembeled your Kyosho FLIP 3-D straight out of the box, and flew it. I just had to "individualize" mine. So, the 2nd day after it arrived, I stripped the covering off and "Did my own thing". Results are posted below.
I wish I had weighed the covered pieces before stripping, but forgot to do that. I did weigh all the "bare bones" pieces before covering, and immediately after covering. I applied 8 ounces of covering.
Final dry weight is 5 lbs, 10 oz.
Setup:
YS 63, APC 13x4W, Futaba 8US Trx, 148DP Rcv, Futaba 9151 Digitals on ailerons, rudder and elevator, Hitec 225 mini on throttle, dual 720 ma NMHI batteries. Everything else is stock.
Maiden flight was last Sunday (Two 10 minute flights). This plane is awesome . Flip is an appropriate name, it will literally flip on the CG (high rates) and has no tendency to snap or roll out. It did tend to pitch up when throttle was reduced. I have since added some up-thrust, can't wait to get it back in the air.
I won't go on any longer right now, so here are the pictures.

Nice covering job. I'm not really crazy about that color green though. But better than the stock trim.

Ya me too. My almost finished bipes main color is lime green, accented with orange and deep blue. My dad wasn't crazy about the green, but it's my plane!

man that cover job makes the flip looks sweeeet!!!!

it doesnt even look like a flip!

i recently re-covered my magic 3d and cut up the wing tips, but on its maiden flight with new cover job someone turned on their transmitter on my channel and destroyed the model, oh well.

Wow! The flip 3D is a plane!
I had not realised. I thought that it was lots of bits of odd coloured rubbish flying in formation- that is what the original covering looks like to me! Nice job. If Kyosho adopted your scheme i bet they would sell more. Nice to see a Flip 3D without becoming dizzy.

Very nice! I wonder if you gained any weight by redoing the covering? Probably not noticable.

I'm in the process of redoing my Graupner Super Air trim scheme... the original one was nice, but the covering (contact paper) stunk and I had to patch it a few times from it ripping apart in the air. I am thinking of doing a Higgens 330s scheme in Chrome, White, and Red

Default Details

I suspect the covering job I did added at most 2 oz over the original covering. Although the original covering is clear (which is lighter than colors) it has probably 60% double covering with all the colored patches. My colored covering is heavier than the clear, but I have less double covering.

The only hardware from the kit I used was 2 metal hinges on each elevator, and the wing mount and LG mounting screws. Ailerons got 5 Nylon Klett hinges each, Rudder got a hinge of my own design. I used the supplied fuel tank. All control rods are 4-40, clevises are Sullivan Gold Clevis, Horns are heavy duty Dubro. I beefed up the horizontal stabilizer and did not install flying wires.

Hi Kiwi IMAC - looks mighy fine ! Great job. I'm selling my custom built 84 inch FlIP here on RCU. It flys great and is pretty unique - but I need funds for another IMAC project.
Keep having FUN !! Rod in PA - USA
