Default Evolution 58 vs DA-50

Im thinking of getting one for a 28% wildhare edge ... On paper the evolution seems to be a better engine, but how do they actually perform compared to a da-50?

well the evolution is made by a commpany called mvvs. the da is a good but over price engine but very good and has earned a good name for it's self you may also look at the dl 50 more power higher rev's and half the cost of the da. just kept in mind once you buy a 600 da moter you still need another 150 for a pipe

here the link for the dl it's my next buy

The Evolution 58 isnt even inthe same boat as the DA. Evolution engines are pure brutes. I have the 45 in a 86" Yak and flying at 17 lbs it has the same power as a friends 85" Yak with a DA and muffler. The 58 will swing a 24" prop all day long and its only true disadvantage is its a pound heavier.

Keep in mind the following -

While the DL is cheaper, the service is also cheaper. That is to say there is none unless you buy it from DL USA.

The DL is as strong as the DA until the DA is well broken in. Then the DA is a bit stronger.

The Evolution engines are overpriced and the necessary parts you will need from Horizon are even more so. Unlike the DA, it does not come with standoffs and unlike the DA, there is not much cheap or used stuff you can pick for it on the web - mufflers, drilled props, etc..

Finally, the Evo 58, while more powerful, is also significantly heavier than the DA. I believe the Evo 45 is about the weight of the DA-50, and despite some hope heard is some of the posts above, unfortunately not as powerful.

There is a reason people stiil buy the DA-50R. It's a hard act to follow...

But the DA in not without it's problems as you'll find lots of threads here supporting that. The DL50 would be my choice of the two.

DA 50 problems were early on and were all taken care of by DA.They did not run and hide from what was happening and fixed all engines at there cost.As far as the ones that people claim do not run right I suspect tuning problems-some people are afraid to touch a needle and get them tuned right.I have two DA 50's and one has 26 gallons or around 300+ flights on her.She tachs 7300 rpm with a KS pipe.Never had a dead stick. All the other brands here are all good in there own way but as far as standing behind there product DA is far above and beyond most in this industry IMHO.

If you are going to fly the plane 3D, don't even think about it. Go for Evolution 58 you will not be desapointed.[sm=shades_smile.gif]

Get a DA-50. They are expensive, because they are the best (just ask the guys winning in IMAC). And their customer service is second to none in the hobby. I wouldn't buy Chinese engines for a lot of reasons including poor metallurgy and poor working conditions.

Remember:

A high price is forgotten long before the disappointment of poor quality.

One had to differentiate between people who cannot operate and/or setup a gas engine for the life of them and between problems that are inherent to the engine itself.

I have a couple of DLs and 4 DAs. The DAs are perfect engines.

Desert Aircraft has taken care of each one of them, when needed, in record time. They have updated the 50s and tested them on my behalf, to the point where I now have DA-50s that consistantly spin a 23x8 prop at 7K rpm on regular muffler.

Any issue I had with these engines was typically my mistake and/or not applying common sense to tweaking these engines.

Every time I sent an engine in, I got world class service, no questions asked and got my engine back within days.

A good DA-50R outperforms any 50cc ( and some larger) engine out there providing it is broken in properly and runs on proper mixture.

Any DA-100 outperforms any 100cc (and 106) engine out there providing it is properly broken in and runs on proper mixture.

If people have issues with adjusting their carb needles or properly mixing and filtering their fuel, they should buy some Clarence Lee book and get back to basics...

If people want to save a buck and go Chinese, that is totally understandable. Exactly like the people who save a buck and buy a Kia or a Daewoo. I like to pay more, buy a Corvette and driven properly, I like the performance.

BTW, this analogy does not hold true for German cars. Their cars are great, but their model engine are too heavy and too expensive...

Wow interesting reading from what I read Mr Airport stated he gave up trying to fix a problem of his DA 50 deadsticking on him.No were did I read if he let the guys at DA address the problem.I still stand behind my feelings that the DA's run great when tuned proper as many, many happy owners will tell anyone.Plus if you do have a problem they will take care of it without question and in a timely manner.Good luck with your DL 50's I'm sure they are a fine motor too.

Not everybody is a motorhead. The guy got a lemon and he got rid of it. You don't KNOW that he didn't know what he was doing, you're just throwing your theory here against the wall to try to make it stick. He didn't bother with that. He got rid of it and moved on. He has the right to say that DA50's suck, because for him they did. You don't even know that he didn't send it in, you just didn't find that he had stated it anywhere and so to you, he didn't.. For every guy who posts here that an EVO45 gasser isn't nearly as strong I can find you somebody or two somebodies to say they're about the same. I know several guys who love them. I love brisons, but they're hard to get and the parts come slow. You're just hanging on saying that you're SURE he didn't know what he was doing, but you have no real evidence to support that.

Let it go. DA50's are good. But some of them are bad. His was probably built on a Friday or a Monday. He's happy now, he's moved on, you have to let him go free.

Such gushy stuff.

It's cool for him. If he does not feel like letting the manufacturer make good, he can move on.

I did the same in the past, when I was new to gasers and could not get my DAs going for the life of me. Explored a bunch of weird engines and even was very sure DL was the answer to all my issues.

I explored a bunch of alternatives and came back to DA at the end, quite convinced that there are no bad engines (DA or not) just people who don't know how to operate them and/or unable to use the customer service at their disposal...
