Lwatson: How does it run compared to a Razor or Hacker, and how is the weight?
On mounting it I may have to put it into a GWS 400 size gearbox.

I have a Futaba MCR-4A receiver/MOSFET speed controller combo from my Midwest Electric Hots (w/Cobalt .05 direct drive, Futaba S3101 servos). Can I use this receiver/speed controller combo and servos with the GWS motor? If so, all I need to buy is a battery and motor and I am all set! Do you think an enlarged set of plans would accomidate the Astro .05 and 7-cell sub-C batteries?

Would the 3s1p be the right battery for the MP Jet 25/35-20? I want the best runtimes and power with the least weight. Also, can you fast charge the lipos? I was planning on getting the Great Planes Triton charger.

I found out how to mount the gearbox, I think this will be better than using the gws gearbox unless it would be better to use the 6:1 ratio instead of the 4:1?? Is there any way to change the ratio with the pinion gear or is the MP Jet gear box set with only that one pinion usable? I am sure you could by a different pinion to change the ratio.
Here is the mount:

Can anyone tell me if the Razor 350 and the 400 are the same diameter? I am having a hard time getting a 350, but am going to be able to pick up a 400. Will they work with the GWS gearbox? Any info please.
Thanks,

I put this plane into moto calc with both the razor and the MP jet motors. They both supposedly worked with the 12x6 on the 4.1:1 ratio of the MP jet gearbox, and performance was theoretically very good with both. I put the razor to the 6:1 and it liked that also, but the MP Jet had too little current draw at full throttle so that it was going to be less eficcient. I think I got it though, the Razor has a hotter wind according to motocalc and so has less torque. The MP Jet seems to be more similar to the Razor rz-400. I plugged this motor in and got the same results as the MP Jet. The MP JEt has a Maximum rpm per volt of 3850, the Razor has a maximum of 4200. The MPJet has a twenty turn winding, how many turns does the razor have?

Tim,
Thanks for posting the plans and videos. They're great. Here's a stupid question: How do you land without breaking the prop on an airframe without landing gear?

Scratch the MP Jet, dang I though I had something. I read a lot of posts on the e-zone and it seems that alot of people are not happy with the performance and the weight. I guess I will have to spend 30 more bucks for the razor.

The Mpjets are not the most efficient brushless. I would say they do OK and that's about it... The Razor 400 in a GWS 5.3:1 (CS gearing) does just as well as the 350 in a D gearbox. The 400's are a bit easier to find too...
aero_eng - You just cut the trottle before you touch down and make sure you touch down nose high. I have yet to break a prop on a planned arrival...

Oh well, it's just an excuse to get a better motor ![Smile](https://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
. I will have to save a little more but that is alright. Are Kokam 1020 batteries any good? one of the internet sites has them for 29 or 39 bucks (Can't remember which). Also, can you fast charge the lipos (At least charge them a pretty quick)? I was wondering if I should get som KAN 950's or sanyos if they can't. I am planning on getting the Triton charger (I probably wont have all the stuff till Christmas time with saving and everything

Tim nice. I like how you dressed that Yak up with Quique's colors. Hey, it's a 25% Yak-54! Well, 25% of Quique's ![Big Grin](https://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Hey, I still haven't been to the hardware store, what should I expect to pay for a sheet of this fanfold foam stuff? Also, the Ultimate's plans say depron is lighter...where do I get THAT?

Place to get the Depron is www.depronusa.com. Standard sheets are 13 x 39. You can get bigger, but you don't need it for the planes, plus they charge extra for oversize shipping on the larger sheets. Cost is about $7.00 per sheet. I've can get 2 complete Ultimate bipes out of 3 sheets of the standard size Depron.

I paid $27 at Lowe's for the Bluecore Fanfold Foam. It's 4' x 50' folded to (25) sheets of 24" x 48". I haven't made the Ultimate yet...but you can easily make (1) 3dx per sheet.
That's only a little more than a buck a plane!
If you can find it...try to get the Blue Foam instead of the Pink stuff. It's lighter & stronger! Where I live, they sell the Blue stuff at Lowe's and the Pink stuff at Home Depot...
Good Luck...and have a BLAST!!!

I feel my thumbs tingling. A $1 expendable 3D plane to run into your backwayd, toss, and practice with! N E A T!
I've already got guys wanting me to build one for them when I get mine together.
I'll make a run to Lowe's next week. Here in Tacoma, we have a Home Depot and a Lowes side-by-side so you can run between them and price things

I just hope your local Lowe's carries it...I've heard from some people that not every location stocks fanfold foam.
This is a link that I used to find a place that sold Fanfold Foam in my area:

Hope this helps!

Too Much Fun !!!!!!![Big Grin](https://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
This plane is affecting my productivity at work. All I want to do Is fly. I need to make a quick attachment for a spare battery pack so I could fly longer without charging. Also, does everybody's fuse and tail twist when you do rolling circles. Mine looks a v-tail at times. Any sollutions?

Tim has mentioned several times in this thread that the plane will twist and contort all over the place...but he said he has never had one fail in flight do to this. If it's not effecting the maneuvers you are doing don't worry about it...and just enjoy the show! Others have added extra spars and things to stiffen up the airframe more. But in Tim's opinion (and mine) you would just be adding unneeded weight. So get back out there and keep doing those rolling circles until the cows come home...these little planes luv'em!

Yup... What 3DRomeo said. If you use 4mm carbon tubes it helps a lot. If you use "wrapped" carbon tubes it will almost elininate the problem, however the wrapped tubes are quite pricy! You can get carbon tubes at www.nyblimp.com Using Depron instead of fan fold helps also, but it's a cost issue... 3 bucks for a plane that can do almost everything aint bad... Even with a bit of twist...
3Dfanatic - remember, these are copyrighted plans... Feel free to build a few for your buddies and charge them as you feel appropriate (time, materials). However, you may not produce these planes commercialy (ie advertising, etc.) Have fun with them though!!!!!!

Av8er Tim: Are the Kokam 1020's any good, a 3 cell pack was 29 or 39 bucks at one of the internet retailers. Also, do you know the stock number for the fanfold at lowes, I want to check before I get some depron, I probably will get depron though.
