U Can Do firewall WARNING !!!!!
#27
Tim,
Did you have to add any weight to the tail to get it to balance with the DA150? I have an OS 25LA in my UcanDo and it's sorta tail heavy and a little underpowered. Is the DA150 stronger than a 25LA (mine has a moose can on it)? How much nitro are you running in the DA?
LOL

Maybe I can stuff a small block chevy in it now.Seriously, I made 2
hardwood rails out of 1/2 by 1/2 and tied into the bulkhead thru the firewall where the old cowl blocks were. The new rails stick about the same amount as the old cowl blocks, I had to notch out where the rails came thru the firewall. Its hard to explain how I did it but the main thing is it is fixed.Lots of epoxy and 4 small screws along with 3/8 tri stock between the blind nut space. Now all I have to do is put the motor mount on and remount the throttle servo and its out to the field Monday.Don't pay any attention to Tim, he flys the big birds that make him look good .Lol

Hroachen,
I just added upsidasium (formerly anti-matter) to the nose. No tail-weight needed. I can send you some if you send me a lead-lined box.
Halliday...Hush. Zip it.
(actually a small block would be cool.)

A guy at our field had a small two stroke in his, and it would fly it but no hovering or 3D stuff.I just got mine all back together and now its time for a test flight. The repair actually came out pretty good,I guess in one way it was a good thing, now I know I should not have a problem with the firewall. The thing flies great, but it defintely could use some better assembly practices.I did e-mail GP and let them know about my concerns.Well off to other things. Thanks everyone for your feedback.

reinforce the firewall.
Really beef it up.
Fiber glass layers and L shaped balsa..
I will be putting a 110 YS. which is the same size of the 90, well it is the 90 bored out.
When I get the engine i will take some picks on how much I beef it up..
Adds some wait . But a few ounces is well Worth the extra beef up...

Flew mine today after the repair and it flew fine.Maybe a little more nose heavy(like the pilot, lol)but that was expected.I will probably move the battery pack back in the fuse somewhere and make a hatch. The 91 AC is a little tired but I cannot see the need for more motor. It will hover at half throttle with the 16x4 W prop.It sure is a fun plane after you get all the bugs worked out.Well good luck with those firewalls and landing gear blocks.Fix those before something bad happens.

also, here is a thread I started listing all the problems I have had, I've nearly got mine done now (finally) but it sure hasn't been worth the effort so far, I hope it flies as good as they say

That is not good.
But can be fixed and beefed up.

It was very easy to repair, the only place there was glue was the triangle stock. on the two bottom pieces that stick down, the only glue was the little bit that had seeped in from where they fuel proofed the fuse. The other thing that bothered me was, those to white blobs you see at the top, weren't bonded to anything, and were very rubbery like it was hot glue. The rest of the glue joints have seemed ok, but for the firewall to come out when I'm tightening the mount bolts?????
I'm glad it happened on the bench and not when I was in front of the model starting it, I don't want kids, but I don't wanna get fixed that way!!!!!!

my experience on the ucd3d is a little bit diferent. The facts are that in my part of the world, only 3 UCD3D have been imported. All of them arrived with a crushed wing. When the importer saw that, he decided to not import the plane in europe due to poor packaging of those big box.
After plenty of phone calls with the main importer, It has been decided that I will received the only UCD3D in europe (the one of the 3 with the less damages) for half of the normal price.
I have the plane and no visible damage, but when you shake the wings you can hear that there is some loosy parts inside.
I will remove the covering on the entire bottom of the wing for repair (bottom is the easiest scheme to redo).
I am really curious to see what I will discover undzr the covering, and I will post pic. Remove and reglu the firewall will also be a part of my assembly process

Hi,
I'm installing the fuel tank in my UCD right now, and I was wondering if they cut the hole in my firewall to high?
If you look at the firewall, there is 2 lines scribed into it (I'm assuming they are marking the center of the engine mount). The center of the hole for my tank is about 3/16" above this center!
Is this how everyone else's is, or is mine higher than it should be?
*I know the tank is high for an inverted engine to start with. But I was wondering if mine is even higher.
Thanks,
Mark
