I just finished this plane and first flight was yesterday. It would not fly straight it was crabbing to the right, and when I finally got it all trimmed out , the rudder was around 5/16" to the left. but that's what it took for it to fly straight. It seems to me that there's way too much built in right thrust in the firewall just over 3/16". Any ideas on this? Should I try to shim out some of the thrust?

When you fly level and its crabbing that does not necessary mean its a side thrust issue. To check for side thrust what you do is as follows:
Fly away from you, into any wind and pull vertical.
A: Model continues straight up; No adjustment.
B: Model veers left; Add right thrust.
C: Model veers right; Reduce right thrust.
I have flown level on days and I can swear its yawing to one side and I will trim it with the rudder but when I pull verticals its not there. Most ARFs are built with some side thrust built into the firewall but its usually insufficient from my experience. I would say 95% of the time you need to shim it for more right thrust.

well I shimmed the motor and took out about half of the factory right thrust , and it tracks much straighter now

I did a review on this plane last summer and didn't have any issues with the thrust at all.
I would be looking for something out of alignment or a warped surface.
