Hi All,
Want to try agasser. Have some play money comingnext week!
Flying on and off 30 yrs.+, have scratched built, designed, yada-yada-yada. Flown sport, arobatic, 3D, even 24 hrs solo in C-150 + 48 w / instructor, everything but checkride.Butmost of my experience is in 40 and 60 size 2 strokeengines. Have a bench run91 four stroke that I'm going to put in my H9 Cub, andput on floats.
Anyway looking for people with experience with this plane or the engines. Adviceif which engine, propwould be best? What size servos? What RPM would Ibe looking for.I'm lean'in to the XY 26cc. Specs says itswings bigger prop. Also I have a homemade smoke system in theCub I'd like to install in it. Figure a 9 to 10.5 lb AUW if specs are true.
Suggestions, advice, jokes, flames. OK, no flames.
Thanks in advance.

rednekk58,
I don't own the XY 26cc gasser but I've ownedquit a few26cc engines. I currently have a Zenoah G26 on aRascal 110. IMOallof the 26cc gassersare in the same ball part when it comes to prop size and rpm. The best props to use are16X8, 17X6, 18X6 andthe rpm will be anywhere from about 7500 -9500rpm depending on the propyou use. I run Pennzoil at 32:1 mix. The MLD 28cc gasser seems to be a really popular engine. Also theCRRC and the RCGF.These little gassers live a lot better life on the front of an RC plane and if tuned correctly they will last a long time. I prefer the Zenoah engines as they have been around the longest and have proven themself over the years.

IMHO you may have trouble finding a 26cc that will 3D a plane with plenty of punch. Usually 40CC is kinda the break point to get a gasser that will 3d and have a fairly light wing loading. You are looking at something in the 74" wing span range like the EF Yak with a good 40 cc engine. That is not to say you can't do 3D with a 26cc engine with the right airframe. It just doesn't give a large margin for error if you get out of shape. The ability to punch out of a manuever when needed is the insurance to 3D down lower than 1 mistake high. Again this is just my opinion...

I think maineflyer is correct about having reserve power but the plane you mentioned coming in at under 9 lbs should dook if the correct prop is used and the engine is tuned properly. About the onlyway you can pull more power out of these little gassers is with a pipe. When I run an APC 17X6 prop on my G26 it willhit about 9700 rpm. That's about as good as it gets. It's something you'll have to experience and see if you like the reserve power yourplane will have. The amount ofpull outa plane has may be fine for some and not enough for others. I guess it all depends on yours skill and your nerves.

One other 26cc engine that's very strong although somewhat expensive is the EVO/MVVS 26 gas. I have both the Zenoah and the MVVS and the later turns an 18X6 XOAR 3 to 400 rpm's more on average than the Zenoah. (Zenoah 8500 to 8600 and MVVS 8800 to 8900) They both run fantastic and the Zenoah makes just over 18 lbs. of thrust as measured with a fish scale with the engine on my Spacewalker. (The engine and plane are seen in my avatar.) The MVVS is in my Mayhem weighing 10lbs 4oz and hovers at just slightly under half throttle. (It's hard to say how much less than half since my thumb is always moving the throttle while hovering.) Excellent punch out from hover and I get 20 min flights on 10oz of fuel with a little left over for good measure. The MVVS/EVO is also lighter than most other 26 size gassers. IMHO it's biggest drawback is price.

Only have $400 to max $500 for plane and engine. Most of my 3D experience comes from electric foamies, though I had a U CAN DO 46 with an OS 60 on it. Would a 90 size plane be more suitable for the 26 engine? Probably need tail weight with increased wing loading.[:'(]
Thanks for your time and help.
