HEY GUYS I HAVE A HANGAR 9 TWIST 60 PLANE WITH A OS 1.6 ENGINE (I KNOW KINDA BIG FOR THE PLANE). I HAVE BEEN FLYING WITH A APC 16X10 PROP UTNIL A RECENT DING SNAPPED OF THE END! I WAS LOOKIN ONLINE AT NEW PROPS AND NOTICED THE "W" DESIGNATION ON SOME OF THE PROPS. ONE SITE HAD 16X 4W, 16.5X5W, 16.5X12W, AND 17X4W. THE PLANE FLEW AWESOME WITH THE 1.60 16X10 COMBO. IT HAD UNLIMITED VERTICAL AND WOULD PULL PUT OF A HOVER WITH EASE. MY QUESTION IS WHAT PROP WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR THIS ENGINE/PLANE??? I READ THE "W" PROPS WERE DESIGNED FOR 3D FLIGHT. THE ONLY DOWNSIDE WITH THE 16X10 WAS THERE WAS A NARROW THROTTLE RANGE IN HOVER. A CLICK TO MUCH THROTTLE AND UR CLIMBING. A CLICK TO LITTLE AND UR DESCENDING.

With a plane that overpowered not sure a different prop is going to help. I have run 18x8's and 20x6's on the OS160 depends on ground clearance. I did have that same problem and fixed it by increasing the resulution of the throttle trim on the TX. You may or maynot be able to do this depends on your TX.

thanks rcplanenut! The plane is overpowered in the extreme. I had the 1.6 lying around and just tried it. I will have to say that compared to the os91 4stroke that was on it it really pulls, there is no comparison. The extra nose weight was needed (at the time) because i only had these big hitech metal gear hight torque servos on the rudder and elevator. The cg came out perfect with no extra wieght added. Back to the props do u no anything about this "W" designation? Are the W's really better for high alpha flight???

The W designation indicates "wide" The blade is actually vey noticably wider. The intent is more tractor pulling power. The props are also niticably heavier but with a 1.60 this would not be a problem. I would get the bigest diameter prop you can get on that plane. Put bigger tires on it to get some more ground clearance. Then pitch accordingly to not over rev the engine. Maybey go under the pitch a little and remember that at full throttle you will likely over rev. The shallower pitch will give you a softer feel on the throttle responce click by click but actually a quicker spool up when you punch it.

thanks mr. mustang, Hobbie central sells a 17x4W and a 18x6W. I am going to try both of those. Another couple of questions. I saw some props on the vess website that were designated 18A, 18B, 19A, 19B so forth and so on. What does the A and B mean. I also lost the back half of my muffler on the 1.60 during flight. I have been flying without it. Other than no pressure for my fuel tank line is there any problems running like this????
