Default What Prop to use?

Here is my question. I have a OS 46LA motor in a 40 size yak-54. I am looking to get the best vertical climb and hang to plane on the prop. I think Iwould use an 11X6 rather than a 12X7. Am I correct that going to a smaller diameter prop with less pitch will give me better climb an thrust but lose speed. I am not looking to gofast. Your inputs would begreatly appreciated.

The APC 12.25*3.75 was made specifically for that engine and 3D.

That prop will give good thrust for vertical and 3D?</p>

Thanks! I see that the APC 12.25X3.75 is what I am finding searching the web.

11x4apc would work well too, and give a faster spool up

no!
11X6 will have less speed and thrust and power.
for increasing the thrust ,diameter have to be larger.

If you want power, its a low pitch, speed is high pitch. diameter is what affects how fast your rpm will come up when you hit the gas(spool up).

The only other prop to try on that plane/engine which will spool quick and have good pull is 12x4. Xoar is the best.

I second ThumbSkull's nod to XOAR being the best. Take a "net" trip on over "Swanyshouse" and see what Paul has to say about the XOAR props. The profile crowd really like them.

The cheap black MA 12x4 is also a good choice. I don't recommend them often, but they are a good choice for your application.
