Hey,
Just wondering if anyone had suggestions for engines on the magic. I have looked at some reviews and they say lighter is best. Would the O.S. 32 SX be good enough to pull It out of a hover? Or am i better off with a .46 FX for the power? ;) Any other recommendations for engines? I want a powerful, maneuverable plane. Thanks in advance, Navy |

Hi,
I have a Webra 50 in mine and it goes up llike a rocket. I have heard that it will hover with an LA 40. I think both of your choices would work fine. I would go with the 32. Should be plenty of power. |

I have a ST.45 on mine with a pitts muffler. got weight wrapped around the tail wire, but it flies GREAT; but then it flew great with an MVVS .40 on it also. If you get a .45 use an APC 12.25x3.75 prop.

I dont have one so I dont know but guys around here are flying them with the TT .36 and they seem to pull out of hover fine.

thanks
Thanks to all who responded. I think i will go with the os 32 (more output than 40 LA, equal to the TT 36, but lighter than both.) thanks again guys. :D

I dont know if a magic will hover on a stock OS LA 40. With a pipe it probably will. My dad has an OS LA 46 on his with a mac pipe, 11x4 and it hovers easy. So any of your motors will work with it.
Im going to put a YS 63 in mine when I get to it!!!! |

Mine will hover and torqu roll with a stock Thunder tiger GP42, APC 12.25 x 3.75 and I have 3/4 oz. of lead on the tail.

I have a friend that has a TT 42GP w/mousse muffler on his Magic 3D. It flies the plane great just flying around, but he isn't too pleased with the power in a hover and especially in pullout from a hover. It's a new motor so maybe it will get better with some runtime. He probably needs to experiment with some different props. I think his plane is a few ounces under 4lbs. Maybe this much weight is a little too much for the 42 when it comes to hover pullout authority. Any ideas?

The GP range arnt that powerfull. go iurvine 39!

There's been a few guys on here that have said the GP 42 with mousse setup had plenty of pullout from a hover. Maybe his plane is a little heavier than some.

Whats a 'mousse' setup

Magic with O.S. 52 FS
I just got a Magic, from a buddy, and he had a Magnum 52 FS. He turned a 12X5, so I thought the O.S. turn at least a 12X6. WELL..
I flew this plane this morning, and it will actually hover just above idle. This set-up is a heaver engine then you were looking for, but the overall result is incredible. bobbdd |

One guy on here tried a Saito 40 on his Magic, but I think he said it could use a little more power.

i had a magic(fluttered ailerons going vertical;( )i would definately go with a .46fx. You will find it is cheaper to buy the best stuff first insead of somethin else and not be satisfied with it, but it is up to you

In the middle of putting a Magic together myself...... I'll be using an OS.52 on mine swinging a 12-5...............
Judging by those videos above, the Magic looks to be a bit unstable............. maybe it's just there setup...................... |

Its a very light plane. proberbly 1.6kg (sorry dont know it in lbs)
Also it could be windy, and with a thick section like that it'll be blown all over the place Ian |

Leo 37 from Just Engines, cheap and VERY powerful!

I have a OS 40 LA in mine and it doesn't have unlimited vertical.
Anyone ever run a Rossi .40, they say it has 2.0 HP? That's more than a .46 and others. |

No No No No NO
Use a LIGHT engine. This will make the CG further back without having to add weight. I have 2 of these. one with a 46 and one with a 36. the 36 out perform the 46 bye miles. you need low weight=low wing loading=low speeds Use a 32-39 Nouthing else Ian |
