Not a bad job for your first time covering. About the tail wheel: If you power it with a saito .72 you wont have to worry about staying on the ground for over 3 seconds. Mine rolls for about 30 feet and when I yank it off the ground it will climb forever. The reason I picked the .72 instead of a .50 is b/c I wanted great power. I can take off and go from 6ft. off the deck to a wall to a hover with EXTRA power to spare. If your hovering on the deck and you get in trouble you can just punch the .72 and the plane blast out of trouble. It kind of sounds funny hovering at such a low setting but man does it have the thrust. The wing loading is not increased enough to tell a difference with the .72. I can put fly it inverted with a good stiff 10 mph breeze blowing and make it look like a kite.
I think you will enjoy this plane. It will do most of the 3D stuff cleanly and it lands twice as slow as your trainer. As far as the flight characteristics go its the best 2nd airplane I know of on low rates and a low throttle setting. PLEASE and I cant emphasis this enough, PLEASE use your throttle only when you have to and keep in mind that this thing is built light, a power on dive with a sharp jerk could cause serious problems. The only time mine sees full throttle is on take off (and thats only if I am going to do something crazy right after I break ground), powering out of a hover or torque roll, and when I am doing waterfalls it sees a short blast to full throttle here and there. For your first flight you might want to keep those rudder and elevator rates on low (20% deflection or so on the elevator).

3d fanatic, a few obsenities could have been typed here, but wont. This is my first kit and i wanted to do a proper job on it. Breaking ailerons didn't help either nor did the hours i was getting from work.

Cartman, very satisfying. Gave me a few laughs first when sitting it beside my trainer then finding out it's taller than my sister

I finaly got some pics of my Laser 3D with YS 53, the black is carbon fiber ultracote, and there is a black cowl not pictured. I am thinking of selling it.

Nice lasers...

I planning to buy one off these machines, and wonder if an os46FX will be enough for a start? I’m also pretty new in flying, but I can fly really good...
And by the way, where can I find clear film??? I want that and I have searched everywhere!!!
And how much film do I need to cover this plane?
And will futabas 6EXA be enough for this plane?

Any LHS should have clear. If you build light, a 46FX will be plenty. Mines 5LBS dry and will pull out of a hover.
That EXA doesn't have a rudder DR. It might work with enough expo. Takeoffs and landings should prove fun, though.

I concur, a 46fx should pull it great if build light. The only really weak point that need to be reinforce on the laser 3D in my opinion is the engine mount. Add some tri stocks. for the rest, build light and as per instructions. You may want to consider to build wingtipless

Yeah, my engine mount came loose, and I reinforced it. Hey Neo, the kit is 150, and that is what I want for mine, airplane only with tank and pull-pull.

Oh yeah, I like the plane, I'm just trying to get something else going now. Rudder DR or any DR is dual rate, which means you have a set switch to have two rates of throw on a control surface.

Yup, DR=dual rate. For doing 3D, you rudder's gonig to have to be set at max deflection or about 50° and that's a bit much for ground handling. Even with lots of expo (which, BTW, is a negative percentage on a Futaba).

What are you guys using for rudder servos? The directions say use a "high torque"servo on the rudder. Would the Tower TS65 be suitable?

On one of my Laser3D's I am running Hitech 645MG on the rudder and Hitech 605's everywhere else.

My other Laser3D I am running Hitech 425BB all the way around. You can tell a difference if you have flown them both back to back.

I have a JR DS 8417 on the rudder, that's a very strong digital servo, not really necessary but I had one laying in the workshop. I am sure that a good BB Hi torque servo will do the job.

And as previously mentioned if your servo is a bit slow and weak, you only feel that when you switch from one to the other. If you experiment some problems during your first flights to control the yaw in extreme manoeuvers, switch to a stronger servo.
