RE: Freestyle Rush
I saw that some of you have been having trouble getting your Rush to do what it is capable of and would like to help anyone so they can take advantage of this truly great airplane. So, here is a little info about mine. Feel free to email me with any questions.
I built the Rush in 2 evenings and had it ready to fly on the third day. I am using an O.S. 50 SX, 13-4 APC(not the wide blade though) and 20% fuel. I used all the stock hardware with the only modification being that I installed the rudder servo in the tail and abandoned the pull-pull. In retrospect, it might have been better to install the elevator servo in the tail as well, as I still needed to add 2 ozs of lead to the tail to achieve the tail heaviness I needed for 3D. The recomended CG is 110mm back. I balanced mine at about 125 or about 5 inches back for the first flight. It required quite a lot of rudder to knife edge, would not flat spin, and would not do a wall. I added 2 ozs to the tail and it is now perfect! I am now balanced at 5.5 inches back or 140mm. I think between 5.5-6 inches is the ideal and will be moving mine back just a hair more to get it to really "pop" up in a wall. Amazing that no matter how much I move the CG back, it never gets touchy on the elevator and lands just as easily. I Hardy have to breath on the rudder for knife edge, walls are better, waterfalls are end over end, inverted is almost hands off, slow rolls and point rolls are effortless, and flat spins and blenders are easier. The weight also helped with harriers. With about an inch of up aileron mixed to the elevator, this is one of the most stable planes in a harrier I have flown...........and its only a .40 size plane!! Very easy to hover and torque roll I have 60 degrees elevator travel, 50 on rudder, and 30 on the ailerons and 50% Expo on all surfaces. Basically this plane has the 3D capabilties and handling of a foamy but precision qualities of a pattern plane. It flips around like my little foamies but then does a 4-point roll like a 2 meter pattern plane. I couldn't have asked for a better combination. |
RE: Freestyle Rush
Tumbler,
Excellent info, how much expo are you using on your controls? Sym |
RE: Freestyle Rush
I am using 50% Expo, but I would suggest to someone who may not be as comfortable with that much throw to use 60-70%.
|
RE: Freestyle Rush
Thanks TUMBLER for the great information ...... heading for the field to experiment !!!
|
RE: Freestyle Rush
TUMBLER is my HERO :D
|
RE: Freestyle Rush
AW, you are too kind. :)
Make sure you guys check the video out on Cheetah RC's web site. |
RE: Freestyle Rush
Can't wait to see ya abuse the Adrenaline.
|
RE: Freestyle Rush
Abuse? Those planes LIVE to be flown like that !
|
RE: Freestyle Rush
Oh I am going to put a hurt'n on it, trust me. Webra 120 and 17-4 prop.
BTW, I don't even take my Rush off the ground anymore. I just hold it by the turtle deck and launch into a hover. Its like a glow foamie........haha. |
RE: Freestyle Rush
N-I-Z-E !

RE: Freestyle Rush
Saito .82 came today. Its supposed to rain allllllllllllll weekend though. I just ran 3 tanks through on the ground and when I grabbed the plane by the gear to hold the nose up it almost ripped the landing gear leg off!!!!! This is going to be the engine for this plane!!! Just slightly heavier than the 50SX I had in it, but waaaaaaay more power. Took the lead out of the tail and moved the battery back half way between stab and wing and am now at the same net weight as I was with the 50. I will let you know how it works if I get a break in the rain.
|
RE: Freestyle Rush
lovely weather here today..Im getting my plane ready in a minute i will get a video today...I moved my c of g back so gota try it.

RE: Freestyle Rush
Saito 82 with 14-4 was not too good. 14-4 made it very sensitive on throttle for hovering and airspeed too slow for pattern. Tried a 14-6 and it was sweeeeeeeet. Tons of acceleration out of a hover and performs pattern perfectly.
|
RE: Freestyle Rush
Very cool! A .50 size plane with a 14" prop...I like it.
|
RE: Freestyle Rush
Flew another 8 flights on the Rush with the .82. Spent all day trimming and adjusting engine thrust only to find out my problem was a stripped rudder servo. I am balanced at 6.25 inches back or 2 inches behind CG now and it will elevator almost straight down into a landing. I came down a little hard on the first one of the day and must have done it then. 6 inches back is the ideal CG I think.
|
RE: Freestyle Rush
6"... That's a long way back. Is it starting to get very twitchy? Can't wait to see this one!
Sym. |
RE: Freestyle Rush
No, not twitchy at all. I let other people fly it that are new to 3D stuff and they had no problem flying it. It still lands a a crawl with less than 5-6 feet of roll out and without a hint of being close to snapping or stalling on landing. I wuld suggest starting at 5 inches and then slowly working your way back though, to see what works best for you own flying style.
|
RE: Freestyle Rush
I saw one fly today a bunch of 3-D today.
. Amazing almost pure vertical drop through the Harrier. NO WOBBLE at all. Torque rolls seemed easy. Would buy one if I did not have a stack to test fly already :-). Eric. |
RE: Freestyle Rush
ERIC,
Too bad you fly that crazy Mode 1 or I would have let you try it yesterday. The gears on the rudder servos were completely shredded btw. Want to help me shoot some video of it tonight??? |
