RE: Easiest plane to hover.

I read everyone's comments with great interest.I am about to purchase my first 3d..I was leaning toward the 60 size ucando..but I saw the hanger 9 twist..in any event I have a nib fs surpass 91..will that engine allow me to hover the ucando????for that matter will that 90 four stroke hover a funtana 9o??I really want to use my surpass 91 but I am concerned that although its brand new is it enough to really fly the ucando 60..??help!

Did you Read the Warning on the UCD website. it is under tech note. with a satio .100 he will get flutter like you would not believe. I've seen more than one go in. THe pilot was very experienced to. even using strict throttle management, he still crashed. Note my signature!

The mix of different planes here is not surprising, whatever you do save weight wherever possible.

The biggest enemy of a good hovering plane is weight. I flew a .25 size 3Der for a while with a .40 and standard equip. I did another of the same plane with a hot and light .25 and light equip doing everything to save weight. The second plane was 9 oz. lighter. The second plane flew and hovered 100000 times better than the heavy one!!!! After a few flights I was backing it down in the hover to exactly the height I wanted!

Keep it light!

are the big gassers hard to hover???like 35-40%??? they look more stable, and somewhat easier??? maybe not for a 3d trainder...lol....but just in general....

RE: Easiest plane to hover.

Sure they're easier, but when you got 5K in a plane it no longer is a plane that you can just go out and bang around for fun - maybe turfing it a few times. You're in a whole new serious ball game. That is why the advice already given in this thread is excellent: which is that the smaller Foamy's, Low cost SPA3D / Pizza Boxes and .40 size Profiles are the best 3D trainers because you can bring them in low and try new maneuvers without great fear of lost investment. I have a 27% MW Extra 300S. It's a little heavy for good 3D, but a very nice plane in general. It almost never goes to the field. The other stuff I fly the crud out of and have a blast doing it. I never go to the field without something coroplast. Sure it is not as pretty as a 40%er, but I'm flying whole flights inches off the ground with no fear.

i have the u-can-do .46 with a o.s 70 surpass and it will hover about about 5/8 or 3/4 throttle and is very stable in a hover. It is a very docile plane and i would highly recomend it especialy for the price! On my second flight with it i was getting 45 second hovers with it.and it is only my second plane not counting my stryker.

Probably the best way to get your thumb in 3D mode (beside a sim)is to get a plane like the SX2 or Revolution 3D electric line of plane, its a little pricy when you have to buy everything, but its made out of EPP and is very durable.you will learn to hover in no time+you can practice close in.I still have a ball everytime I take it out to fly.Tonight around 10:00 I was out flying in the dark under the street lite in front of my house.:-) its a blast

The easiest plane to prop hang has to be the cougar 2000 by westonuk. its stable and you can make it gentle to learn with. Lots of people at my club have flown mine and enjoyed its flying style. Its also ideal for someone who wants to enter the world of 3d. :D
