I don't think you can read! I didn't say the plane sucks, I said some of the manuevers sucks. Also have tried a JR and you know what "I can't feel the difference", but I can with a 9Z.

BTW, you think you set your plane right? Why don't you show me a video of you doing a waterfall and perfect flat spins on your UCD? Until then, shhhhh!!!

My 7 months of 5 days a week of flying equals to your 5 years. For your info, I just did order my Aeroworks Giant scale. Anyways I'm not going to argue with you about this. I was not bad mouthing the UCD, in fact it's one of my favorite planes. If I came a little to strong, my bad. That's right for $189, you can't beat it.

Just because somebody has a 40% doesn't mean that can fly it well. All it means is that they can AFFORD it.

I see people all the time that have 25%, 30%, 35%, 40% and they can't torgue roll, hover, waterfall, harriers, barely knife edge, rolling circles, etc.

Can they fly, yes.
Can they afford it? Apparently so, they have them.
Can I afford a 40% no.

Can't believe how big it is. Long Fuse, I was impressed that the wing is one piece already.

Upon inspecting the contents of the box and airplane I found that the workmanship ----

"for an ARF-this is only my second ARF since I started flying in 1996"

----was pretty good.

I did find my fuse, between the wing saddle and back of the cock-pit, errr I mean "flight-deck" -PC-, was some what cracked. Not all the way thru but enough for me to have to brace it.

Also one of the wing tips was crushed in shipment. Like I said not enough for me to have to wait around for GP to replace it.

I was not impressed with the packing as there was NO-Damage to the outside of the box at all.

I can't wait to put it together and fly it. I'm yanking my radio and engine "TT FS 91" out of my GP giles 202 for the UCD.

Just came back from flying in a 20~25mph wind. Torque roll was spinning the other way around, it's weird, maybe the wind caught the wing. The plane was flying sideways in a cross wind when flying slow. I was hovering in front of me and it ended up 200ft down the runway, the wind just kept blowing it but she held up in a steady altitude. The hovering seems to be more stable at tail heavy setup. My CG is now at 6" from the leading edge and I think it can be moved some more. I will try 6-1/2". I'm using 20/20 on my Saito and only gained 150rpms from 15%. This is a lot of fun.

BTW, when I looked at the firewall, it seems to have a left thrust angle instead of right thrust. I had to add three washers to get the perfect thrust angle. Do you guys have this same problem with your UCD? Also this is the first time I used CA hinges cause I was to lazy to epoxy my pinned hinges, I hope I have luck with these. This is the fastest ARF I ever built, 6-1/2 hours.

Thanks Mecam for you honest assesment of the plane. My friend has a Madness by ZNLine and while it flys good it too will not spin or snap. To me a plane that won't do those things well isn't for me. How does the UCD snap. I flew a Kyosho GTrick yesterday and that plane has the best snap of any one I have ever flown. Thanks

UCD does not snap very well if you compare it to a scale aerobatic plane. I think it's those huge wings that prevents it from snapping right. It does more like a barrel roll, even at 3d rates. It seems to snap tighter at higher speeds but nothing close to a scale model. Also, honestly the torque roll does not happen automatically, you would sometimes have to give some left aileron to start it and then sometimes it just stops torque rolling even when you're perfectly vertical. It's still a very fun airplane to fly because you can go crazy without really sacrificing $$$$. In my opinnion, it shouldn't be called U-Can-Do-3D because it does not do all the 3D manuevers out there. I'm also having a hard time getting it to do knife edge spin because it does not want to whip the tail around. I'm gonna try 6-1/2" CG and see what happens. The recommended CG is 4-7/8 so I'm way back there.

Then theres one manuever this baby can do that I've never seen on any airplane do is "KNIFE EDGE WALL". I guess the fuse acts like a wing because it's so tall and skinny.

They should also take out the U-Can-Do-3D stickers from the package and maybe make the price $5 cheaper cause honestly I don't think anybody puts them on.

I got to fly a friends UCD3D powered by a YS 61 heli engine. I was very impressed! Even with the 60, it would easily hover, with enough reserve power to pull out vertically. Torque rolls needed aileron to get it spinning, otherwise it would just hang there. Flying the UCD3D reminded me a lot of flying the Cap 232-2X on Realflight G2......which is one of my favorite G2 planes.

After flying my nephew's Goldberg Extreme 3D, I had myself talked into buying one of my own.....until I flew the U Can Do 3D. Now I'm leaning more towards getting a UCD3D instead.......especially since I've got a couple of ST 90 engines sitting around collecting dust.

for those currently flying or assembling a UCD. i flew mine for the second time yesterday afternoon and during a flyby at 1/2 throttle about 200 ft high, the right horizontal stab and elevator broke off the plane. i managed to get the plane down with only minor "other" damage including a ripped off landing gear block, cracked cowl and torn covering. the first flight and up to that point the plane and done ZERO aerobatic manuevers. just flying around in circles at no more than 1/2 throttle, on my very rich os 91 fx, and practice landings. upon inspection, the stab was constructed out of VERY soft balsa that simple sheared at the root of the stab.
spoke with hobby services late friday, but no managers were there so will have to wait till monday morning to see what they are going to do for me.
though everyone would like to know about this. if anyone wants to know more, feel free to email me.

Anyone flying this plane w/ a YS 91.

I have to buy a motor for this plane. I can't descide between OS 91FX, Saito 100, or YS 91.

Also what servos are you guys using? Are you using Standardard BB or you going w/ higher torgue servos.

m.gramling, There's a thread on the UCD with YS 91 further down the first page on this forum.

I'm putting a saito 100 in mine because of the problems people have with this plane being nose heavy. The saito 100 is several ounces lighter than the YS 91.

I would like to go w/ a 2 stroke for this plane. Just because 2 strokes normally cheaper.

I do love my YS63 and I am sure the 91 is same quaility.I am also considering the Saito 100 as well. I just like the performance of the YS.

Also I am looking to buy a 60size yellow aircract edge when they come available in the future.

Yea it came and it is big for the price happy as heck. What a deal in my opinion. I got a 91fx also to really join the band wagon.
Boo and hiss I know but I gots a futaba 352 dual gyro for hovering training wheels. I just want to see it hover. I have yet to see a plane hover real life up close. My magic would hover like a sick dog but I want to see the real deal. I think 225 elevators and I think over kill it with hitec925 rudder and just some good old fashioned futabas for ailerons.

I ordered my UCD from my local hobby shop on Saturday. Should be in this week if all goes well (i.e. Great Planes has them in stock). I saw one the other weekend after an IMAC meet. Looks very nice for an ARF. I have a YS91AC on the shelf to go on the front. I'm not too worried about being nose heavy as this is easily corrected by moving the battery pack towards the tail. (fixing a tail heavy plane is the tough one to deal with) I too am interested in what servo's you folks are going with. Also, does this ARF come with a tank? Any chance of placing the tank over the CG?

Had a YS 91 AC in mine, balanced right on the specs. I used BB coreless servos retired from pattern planes when I put in digitals. Be careful if flying with the 3D rates. Was flying mine Sat, doing snaps and spins. Came down out of a short dive toward the ground, was going to pull up into a hover, and the plane snapped before I knew what had happened. Didn't get to fly it much, but what little bit I flew it, it was awesome. The 91 had plenty of power, would pull up out of a hover like a rocket with an APC 15x6.

Hello Mark, your YS should be a perfect engine for that. I'm running a Saito 91 and honestly it does not have authority to pull out of a hover but it does hover great. I'm using Fut9402 on the tail and Fut9303 on Ails. The kit comes with a slim tank and putting it on the CG area is doable, but requires little more work. Mine weights 7.6lbs. I would also recommend replacing those 2-56 rods as they bend easily, I'm using 4-40 and works fine. Good luck

Thanks Mecam/Thanks Prophecypilot, thanks for the servo recommendations. The info on the 15-6 prop is also very valuable. Sorry to hear your loss Prophecypilot, hope you get another one soon. With the pressurized system on the YS, I always try to put the tank right over the CG. Some planes this can work, others it's not doable. Glad to hear it might work in the UCD. What size battery pack are you guys using?

I flew the Extase from S2G with a YS91AC and that was a good power to weight ratio @6.25 lbs. I also flew my 60SuDoKhoi @8 lbs with a YS91AC. That was alright except for hot/humid days, where I had to fly out of hovers. So I installed my YS120NC in the UCanDo. I have the tank in the middle compartment of the fuse, right over the middle of the wing. All it took was to remove a little bit of fuse former. I have my throottle servo and Rx in the compartment behind the tank, the Rx battery in the fuse right in front of the single elevator servo. I have two Cirrus CS75BBCL on ailerons, two Hitec HS525BB on elevators, a Hitec HS925BBMG on rudder and a Hitec HS205BB on throttle, powered by a 5 cell 1,800mAh NiMetal battery. I flew it this Sunday with the battery over the trailing edge, and nose heavy, and it still hovered easily. I have a feeling I will end up with CG 2" behind recommended, as I did with the Extase, to really like it. These long tail moment planes don't get as nasty when tail heavy as the short tail moment funflys do ha ha.

Have you been following some of the Laser 3D threads? They say they Laser, Madness, and Ultra Stick 60 harriers better upright without the wingtips. Have you tried or seen a UCD3D without the wingtips? Just curious because the UCD3D that I flew had the wingtips, and it really rocked back and forth in an upright harrier.

I know that the Madness won't roll for ***** with its wingtips. I also do know that the general concensis or opinnion is, that square wingtips Elevator and Harrier the best. That is also my experience. My HardBet, which basically had a Hershey Bar wing with slightly tapered ailerons, was the best plane I've had at Elevators and Harriers. My 60SuDoKhoi with the SDK wing tips, would rock, but was controllable to Harriers landings. The Extase would rock, and I never did quite get it under control in Elevators. The UCD I've only flown twice, and it was nose heavy both flights. Next weekend I'll wring it out some more and see if a combination of tail heaviness and spoilerons can lock it into an Elevator. My Extase needs a little TLC, maybe I'll square off the wing tips when repairing, and see how it affects it.
